Biography
Born September 2, 1930 in Leningrad .
During the war , he and his family were evacuated to Siberia . In the evacuation he was carried away by literature, composed stories, he himself illustrated them. He already knew how to play the violin, but was not going to become a musician. He studied at the first children's music school opened in Leninsk-Kuznetsk in 1942 [4] . In 1944 he returned to Leningrad.
According to A. Petrov, the decision to become a composer was made in 1945 under the impression of the film “The Big Waltz ” about I. Strauss .
He graduated from the N. Rimsky-Korsakov Leningrad School of Music ( 1945 - 1949 ), and then from the Leningrad Conservatory in composition ( 1949 - 1954 ). Pupil of O.A. Yevlakhov . During his studies, he met his future wife Natalya.
He worked as a teacher in a music school. In 1954-1958 - editor of the Leningrad branch of the publishing house "Music" .
The composer's work is very diverse. He owns both popular melodies for films, music for songs and romances, and works of serious (academic) music - ballets , operas, symphonies, instrumental concerts.
Since 1955 - a member of the Union of Composers of the USSR (since 1965 - Secretary of the Board of the SC of the RSFSR and the USSR SK) For many years he was chairman of the board of the Leningrad branch of the Union of Composers of the RSFSR (1964-1991).
He was the initiator and permanent director general of the St. Petersburg Musical Spring international festival.
Member of the CPSU since 1957 [3] . He was elected people's deputy of the USSR , deputy of the Supreme Council of the RSFSR of the 7th and 8th convocations.
He died on February 15, 2006 after suffering an ischemic stroke in the clinic of nerve diseases of the Military Medical Academy. S. Kirov in St. Petersburg. He was buried at the Volkovsky cemetery in St. Petersburg in the literary bridges museum-necropolis [5] . Tombstone (architect V. B. Bukhayev ) was created in 2007.

Creative activity
In his work he developed the traditions of Russian classical music, as well as D. Shostakovich , who wrote: “I am delighted with his fruitful work in various genres. A. Petrov has a vibrant composer personality .... "
The composer's work is multi-genre from songs to large symphonic canvases, ballets, operas, instrumental concerts. And many domestic films owe their long screen life to his music.
The composer declared himself immediately and vividly with the symphonic poem “Radda and Loiko”, performed in the Great Hall of the Leningrad Philharmonic , and later with the ballet “Shore of Hope”, which was staged at the Opera and Ballet Theater. S. Kirov . The premieres of all his major musical and stage works took place here.
Then, for many years, the composer's interest focused on film music and song. In a short time he became a recognized master in this field, and created melodies for the films Amphibian Man, I Walk in Moscow, Watch Out for the Car, Blue Cities, The Way to the Quay ( Song of a Friend ) gained popular popularity. He wrote music for 12 films of E. Ryazanov , 5 films of G. Danelia , for films of V. Khotinenko , A. German and other directors.
In 1967 he composed and staged the operetta “We Want to Dance”. Subsequently, he turned to this genre, creating together with his daughter Olga Petrova the musicals “The Captain's Daughter” (for the Boston Conservatory, USA ), “The Blue Bird” (Theater “Rock Opera”). The composer was widely recognized for his work for the musical theater, especially the ballet “Creation of the World” based on drawings by J. Effel . This ballet has been staged in dozens of domestic and foreign stages, and orchestral fragments from it, united by the author in suites, have entered the permanent philharmonic repertoire.
Relatively late, the composer came to the opera. In 1975, he created the opera Peter the Great. Then followed the ballet "Pushkin" and the opera extravaganza "Mayakovsky begins." These three compositions form a musical stage cycle dedicated to the great sons of Russia.
And again - symphonic opuses: Violin concert, fantastic symphony “Master and Margarita”, Piano concert. And again - songs, pop plays, film music: sounding fragments from the films “ Office Romance ”, “ Autumn Marathon ”, “ Cruel Romance ”, “ Say the Word About the Poor Hussar ”, the television series “ Petersburg Secrets ” were widely used.
The composer collaborated with the international theater "Eugene O`Neill Center", located in the United States. The premiere of the joint production of the musical “Captain's Daughter” with the Broadway collective took place in 2002 in the USA and in March 2003 in Russia. In November 2005, the composer presented to the audience a symphony-fantasy “Farewell to ...”. “This is not a requiem, this is a memory of that beautiful thing, which, unfortunately, we have to say goodbye to,” said Andrei Petrov in an interview on the eve of his anniversary.

Всероссийский конкурс композиторов им. А. Петрова
Конкурс композиторов проводится ежегодно в начале осени. Начало конкурса — в день рождения композитора, 2 сентября.
Учредители: Филармоническое общество и Союз композиторов Санкт-Петербурга, Российское авторское общество и фонд «Петербургское наследие и перспектива».
Первый конкурс прошёл в рамках фестиваля «Почётные граждане Санкт-Петербурга» и начался на Литераторских мостках Волковского кладбища в полдень 2 сентября 2007 года . На могиле композитора открыт надгробный памятник, и в тот же день на территории Петропавловской крепости прошёл концерт памяти композитора. Торжественное открытие конкурса состоялось в Большом зале Филармонии имени Дм. Шостаковича . Награждение лауреатов и дипломантов, а также финальный гала-концерт состоялись 9 сентября 2007 года [14] .
Сад Андрея Петрова
На Каменноостровском проспекте в Санкт-Петербурге между домами 26-28 и 32 создан Сад Андрея Петрова. Этот участок, в 1990-е годы считавшийся строительной лакуной и в 2001 предназначенный под застройку [15] , был озеленён силами горожан при личном участии композитора [16] . 29 января 2007 года скверу присвоено имя Андрея Петрова [17] . В 2008 году сквер реконструирован и благоустроен (при участии Наталии Ефимовны Петровой, вдовы композитора; автор архитектурной концепции сквера А. А. Трумм), в сквере разместились фонтан и скульптурная композиция «Первая скрипка» — 8 скульптур, символизирующих миссию композитора. На этой площадке будут проводиться концерты, фестивали, музыкальные конкурсы [18] . Официальное открытие сада после благоустройства состоялось 27 июня 2008 [19] ; официальное открытие скульптурной композиции — 2 сентября 2008 года [20] .
Музыкальная школа им. А. Петрова
23 апреля 2007 года одной из старейших музыкальных школ Санкт-Петербурга — образовательному учреждению «Санкт-Петербургская детская музыкальная школа № 2» — присвоено имя Андрея Петрова [21] .
Стипендия им. А. Петрова
22 мая 2007 года Постановлением Правительства Санкт-Петербурга учреждена стипендия имени А. Петрова. Две таких стипендии будут назначаться студентам государственных образовательных учреждений высшего и среднего профессионального образования, ведущих подготовку специалистов в области музыкального искусства [22] .
Books
В 2005 издательство «Культ Информ Пресс» (Санкт-Петербург) выпустило книгу Наталии Петровой «Андрей Петров. От Шостаковича до Шевчука» (из ненаписанного дневника). Книгу открывают три предисловия: от режиссёра Георгия Данелия, автора книги Наталии Петровой и самого Андрея Павловича. [23]
В 2010 году в Санкт-Петербурге издана книга «Ваш Андрей Петров. Композитор в воспоминаниях современников». Книга, вышедшая к 80-летию со дня рождения почетного гражданина Санкт-Петербурга, написана на основе более пятидесяти встреч и бесед автора-составителя, обозревателя ИТАР-ТАСС О. Сердобольского с друзьями, творческими соратниками, коллегами и родственниками композитора. Издание удостоено премии «Золотое перо-2010». [24]
