Career in Russia
Yevgeny’s father, Vladimir Anatolyevich, himself once played hockey and in three years put his son on skates. The first coach of the future star in the hockey school of Magnitogorsk Metallurg was Yuri Tukaserov. At the age of 8 years, Sergey Zinov became Yevgeny’s coach.
Until the age of fifteen, not all specialists could see the potential of a young hockey player - at one time he was not even taken to the youth team of the Urals region . [2]
However, the hockey player proved his right to be in the junior and youth national teams of Russia with his dedication and efficiency. In 2004, at the junior world championship (players no older than 18 years) in Minsk as part of the Russian national team, Evgeny became the world champion. At the World Youth Championship (players no older than 20 years), his success was a bit more modest: 5th place at the 2004 World Championships (where he was the youngest hockey player on the Russian team) and two silver medals at the 2005 and 2006 World Championships, held respectively in the USA and Canada .
Malkin's debut match at the top level of the Russian championship was the guest game of Metallurg with the Yaroslavl Lokomotiv on September 12, 2003 in the 2003/2004 season (Lokomotiv won 7: 2) [3] . Before that, Evgeny played two matches for the main team of Magnitogorsk at the XII Memorial of I. Kh. Romazan in 2003 . He opened his bombarding score on October 11, 2003 in Moscow in a match against Dinamo (Moscow) - together with Ravil Gusmanov he assisted Alexander Koreshkov [4] . Malkin scored his first goal in Yaroslavl in a match with the same Lokomotiv on December 12, 2003, and in this game he scored two goals [5] .
In total for the Magnitogorsk club Evgeny Malkin played 3 seasons - 2003/2004 , 2004/2005 and 2005/2006 . During this time, from the budding "masochnik", he became one of the leaders of the club and the national team . During this time, he became the silver and bronze medalist of the Russian Championship (seasons 2003/04 and 2005/06). In his first season, he was recognized as the best rookie of the season , and in the 2005/06 season he won the Golden Helmet prize as the best center forward (except for this, he became the second scorer of the season after Alexei Morozov ). Because of the lockout in the NHL , the season 2012/2013 Malkin began in the KHL as part of his native Magnitogorsk Metallurg . Total spent 37 matches in which scored 65 (23 +42) points.
In 2006, during the trip of “Metallurg” to the traditional interseason tournament, the Tampere Cup, Malkin left the team location on arrival in Helsinki to go to North America to play in the NHL.
Career in the NHL
After his escape from Metallurg Magnitogorsk, on September 5, 2006, Malkin signed a contract with the NHL club Pittsburgh Penguins [6] . In the first exhibition match on September 20, 2006 against the “ Philadelphia Flyers ”, Malkin made an assist in the first period in the 2 nd minute, after which Sergey Gonchar scored. However, at the very beginning of the second period, after a collision with his partner John Leclaire , he unsuccessfully fell and injured his shoulder [7] . Fortunately for the player, the injury was not so serious, and the hockey player missed only four starting matches of Pittsburgh in the 2006/2007 season.
The debut match in the NHL Malkin held October 19, 2006 on the home for the "Penguins" ice " Mellon Arena " in a match against the " New Jersey Devils ". After spending 18 minutes and 15 seconds on the court and making two shots on the opponent's goal, he managed to distinguish himself in 38 minutes 38 seconds of the game from the programs of Ryan Whitney and Mark Rekka .
“I was worried, because it was my first game here. Further, I think, it will be easier " [8]
Pittsburgh was able to get into the playoffs for the first time since 2001 . In the first round of the Stanley Cup against the Ottawa Senators , the Penguins lost 4: 1. Malkin scored 4 points in five games. At the end of the season, Eugene received Calder Trophy .
Malkin was able to very successfully replace Sidney Crosby during his absence due to injury, so he got on his first All-Star Game . In January, after the match with the Washington Capitals , Malkin accused Alexander Ovechkin of being too hard on him and in an attempt to deliberately inflict injury. Players exchanged reproaches to each other through the press, thereby fueling interest in the conflict. And during the matches of their teams with each other constantly focused on the players [9] . After returning to Crosby and acquiring from Atlanta Thrashers , Marian Gossa won the Pittsburgh division and was recognized by all experts as one of the playoff favorites. In the first round, just like a year ago, the Penguins played against Ottawa again, but this time Pittsburgh did not leave a single chance to Senators, beating them in four games. Then they consistently knocked out the New York Rangers and Philadelphia Flyers with the same score 4: 1 in the series and, for the first time since 1992 , reached the final, where they met with the Detroit Red Wings , but won Cup failed [10] . At the end of the season, Malkin signed a five-year contract with Penguins for a total of $ 43.5 million.
The regular season 2008/2009 championship team is uneven, but thanks to the change of coach, the “penguins” from fifth place go to the playoffs. For the very same Malkin this season was the best in his career. In the "regular season" he wins the scorer race with 113 points and gets the Art Ross Trophy . At the all-star match, he gets into the starting five, wins the throwing accuracy competition. Also at that stellar weekend, he was reconciled with Alexander Ovechkin [11] . In the first round of the playoffs, “Pittsburgh” beat “Philadelphia”, and in the second round on the basis of seven matches, it turned out to be stronger than “Washington”. In the finals of the conference, “penguins” very easily overcame “ Carolina Hurricanes ” 4: 0. In the decisive series, “Pittsburgh” meets Detroit again. As in the past year, the “wings” won the first two matches, but the players of “Pittsburgh” were able to level the score. After that, the teams exchange wins on the home ice and meet in the seventh match. Pittsburgh was able to win a decisive 2: 1 game and take revenge on last year’s defeat. Malkin gains 36 points in the playoffs and gets the Conn Smythe Trophy .
The following season, Malkin spent weaker, the reason for this were injuries and unsuccessful performance at the Olympics in Vancouver [12] .
The 2010/2011 season for Malkin became the most unsuccessful in the NHL, having spent only 43 games, Eugene was forced to miss the rest of the regular season and the playoffs due to a severe injury to his right knee. The following season, Eugene fully rehabilitated over the last bad season. With 109 points, Malkin became the league's top scorer, and for the first time in his career he overcame the 50 goals scored in the regular season. At the end of the season, he received the “ Art Ross Trophy ”, “ Hart Trophy ”, “ Ted Lindsay Award ”.
On June 13, 2013, Malkin extended his contract with Pittsburgh for 8 years and a total amount of $ 76 million [13] .
On October 29, 2016, Malkin scored a double in the match against Philadelphia and as a result reached 300 goals in the NHL regular championships [14] .
In the playoffs, the Stanley Cup 2017 became the top scorer, gaining 28 points in 25 meetings. As a result, Pittsburgh won the second Stanley Cup for the first time since the 1998 Detroit.
On January 8, 2018, in a match against Boston Bruins , he scored a double by throwing the winning goal in overtime, and as a result became the Pittsburgh record holder in the number of goals (12) scored in overtime in the NHL regular championships [15] .
March 11, 2019 in the match against the Washington Capitals scored the 1000th point in the NHL regular championships, becoming the 88th player in the history of the league, who achieved such a result. Malkin became the fifth Russian hockey player who overcame this milestone and did it faster than all his compatriots - in the 848th match [16] .
International Career
Malkin spent his first performance in the Russian team at the 2003 Junior World Championships in Yaroslavl , where he scored 9 points in 6 matches and won the bronze. Next year in Minsk he becomes a champion, and in a few months he is invited to the youth team for the World Championship.

Together with the Russian national team, Evgeny twice became the winner of the hockey Euro Tour - in the 2004/2005 and 2005/2006 seasons. May 18, 2010 held the 50th match in the Russian team [18] .

At the 2012 World Championships, Malkin won the gold medal and was recognized as the most valuable player in the tournament. At this World Cup Eugene became the main shock force of the Russian team. In the course of each of these matches, the Russian team was inferior to the opponent, but Eugene scored goals, reducing the gap in the account and leading the team forward. Malkin scored a goal in the final match against Slovakia , setting the final score of the match - 6: 2.
At the 2014 World Championships, he became a two-time world champion, scoring the third goal in the numerical majority (5 to 3) in the final match with the Finnish national team.
