Sunzhensky ridge ( Chech. Regӏa, Sölzhan-Regӏa , Kabard. -Cherk. Sungitjet , Osset. Arykhkhy rægatæ , Ingush. ArgI ,) - a mountain range in the Ciscaucasia . Administratively located in the four republics - Kabardino-Balkaria , North Ossetia , Ingushetia and Chechnya . It is bounded by the Sunzha River from the south (a tributary of the Terek River ), from the north by the Alkhanchurt Valley, which separates it from the Tersky Range , in the west it is bounded by the Urukh River .
The highest point of the ridge is Mount Zamankul (926 m). The ridge rises to 600 m above an inclined plain, decreases from west to east and goes closer to Grozny into low hills. The river Terek , descending from the Main Caucasian ridge , crosses the Sunzhensky ridge near the Ossetian village of Elkhotovo , forming the Elkhotovsky gate ( Osset. Urdzhynar « g , “gorge of the Args”). The ridge is composed of Neogene shale clays and sandstones .
The mountain slopes are covered mainly with steppe vegetation; in the higher western part, sections of dense broad-leaved ( oak , hornbeam ) forests are preserved.
