Broaching - sharp turns (throws) of the yacht in the windward side , not amenable to control.
Movement of the yacht in the opposite direction with respect to the roll, caused by the asymmetry of the hull, is usually the reason for broaching, most often this occurs on the courses fordewind and backstage . If the force arising as a result of these factors cannot be compensated by the influence of the helm, then the yacht goes to broaching.
Very often, broaching occurs when a spinnaker is carried and a large differential on the nose, because of which there is a breakthrough of air under the bottom of the boat in the area of the steering wheel and, as a result, loss of controllability.
