Biography

Born on the island of Corfu in the family of the singer and composer Leandros Papatanassiu, known under the pseudonym Leo Leandros. Since 1958, together with his father lived in Germany . In 1965 she released her first single "Messer, Gabel, Schere, Licht", which brought her fame. In 1967, she received an offer to represent Luxembourg at the Eurovision Song Contest , where she took fourth place with the song L'amour est bleu , performing under the name Wiki. At the same time the song became an international hit, which became the starting point of its long-term popularity in many countries of the world.

In 1971, she received the Montreux Bronze Rose prize for her television show Ich Bin. In 1972, she again represented Luxembourg at the Eurovision Song Contest , where she won first place with the song “Après Toi”, whose sales in the world exceeded the milestone of 10 million copies. During her career, she recorded singles and albums in eight languages, becoming one of the most popular singers of the 1970s. The singer's singles "Theo, wir fahr'n nach Lodz", "Ich hab 'die Liebe geseh'n", "Die Bouzouki klang durch die Sommernacht", "Ich liebe das Leben" had great success. At that time, her records were released annually, and sometimes twice a year.

The singer has received a huge number of gold and platinum disks in many countries of the world, being for several decades one of the world leaders in the number of records sold. Over the course of her career, Vicky Leandros recorded over 450 singles and 460 LP in various languages, the total circulation of which exceeded 40 million copies sold.

In 2006 she participated in the German national selection for Eurovision , but failed. In the same year, she was elected vice-mayor of the Greek port city of Piraeus from the PASOK party , but in 2008 she left her post and returned to her musical career.

In 2011 she took part in the recording of the track “C'est Bleu” from the album The Big Mash Up of the German group Scooter . The track is made on the basis of its hit "L'amour Est Bleu", borrowed the first two verses in its performance.
