In the preview of the picture, Ball said that the film did not have a script , and the actors improvised all the dialogs [1] . Also on May 15, 2009, Tunnel Rats , released by Replay Studios, was released .

For directorial work in this film, Uwe Boll was awarded the Golden Raspberry anti-award in the corresponding nomination in 2009 [2] .

Story

A group of American soldiers arrives at the base camp in the jungle in Vietnam . Soldiers spend the first day and night getting to know each other. The next morning, they begin to explore the underground network of Viet Cong tunnels . In the tunnels, soldiers discover booby traps and Vietnamese partisans. Meanwhile, the Viet Cong is attacking the American base on the surface.

Interesting Facts

  • In the opening credits , the song “In the Year 2525 (Exordium and Terminus)” [3] , written by American pop rock duet Zager and Evans, sounds. Having become an American hit in 1969, it was originally released in 1968, which is indicated in the title of the film as a reference. The song is an apocalyptic forecast for the future and predicts the inevitable degradation of human civilization .

Criticism and reviews

The film received mixed reviews. “The exaggerated and implausible story of 'tunnel rats', showing a completely unrealistic picture of their service” (Gordon Rottman, military historian and Vietnam War veteran) [4] . Jeffrey M. Anderson of Combustible Celluloid gave the film three stars out of four and wrote: “If Ball made this film in 1986, he could have won an Oscar. [5] Bill Gibron from Filmcritic.com gave the film 3.5 stars out of 5, calling it "very good [6] ."

But in spite of mixed reviews, Uwe Boll received Golden Raspberries with the title of worst director for this film, which he also received for the films In the Name of the King: The Story of the Underground Siege and Postal .

Game

Uwe Ball also introduced the eponymous game based on his own film. The game was developed by Replay Studios using the playback mechanism, and was released on Steam on May 15, 2009 [7] .
