Career

Yana Khokhlova and Sergey Novitsky at their debut European Championship 2006 .

Mom took the five-year-old Yana to the rhythmic gymnastics section, and at the same time the girl began to work in the ballet on the ice at the AZLK skating rink (now it is the Moskvich skating rink), in the children's theater on the ice Aleko. In the end, I had to choose, and Yana chose skates. In the theater, she rode up to 13 years.

Yana got into dancing by chance. On the same rink, where her ballet practiced, dancers rode. And one of the boys was left without a partner. Yane was offered to try to stand in a pair. She liked it. The first partner of Yana Khokhlova was Andrei Maksimishin .

In 2001, Yana stood up in a pair with Sergey Novitsky, who was left without a partner. Coach Alexander Porkin and choreographer Irina Zhuk have been working with a couple since 2003 , previously Yana and Sergey have been training with Larisa Filina.

The first major success was bronze at the 2005 Russian Championship .

They repeated this result in 2006 , which allowed them to take part in the Olympics in Turin . There they became the twelfth.

In 2007, the pair became the silver medalists of the Russian Championship, the fourth at the European Championships and the eighth at the World Championships .

In 2008 , in the absence of the leaders of the Russian team Oksana Domnina - Maxim Shabalin , Yana and Sergey become champions of Russia . At the European and World Championships of the same year they become the third.

In the 2008–2009 season, costumes for the couple’s performances were developed by the famous Russian fashion designer Vyacheslav Zaitsev [2] . At the Grand Prix stage of the Cup of Russia 2008 , Khokhlova and Novitsky, for the first time in their career, in full-time wrestling, beat the first couple of the country, Oksana Domnina and Maxim Shabalin [3] . In the final Grand Prix Khokhlova and Novitsky withdrew from the competition after a warm-up due to severe food poisoning from a partner [4] . In the championship of Russia, the pair defended their champion title. At the European Championships, in the absence of leaders of European ice dancing, Domnina and Shabalin, as well as Delobel and Schonfelder, Jan Khokhlova and Sergey Novitsky, won the gold medal for the first time in their career. At the World Championships in 2009 , being among the contenders for prizes, they acted unsuccessfully and took only 6th place.

In the Olympic season 2009-2010, Khokhlova and Novitsky unsuccessfully performed in the Grand Prix series - they took only 4th place in China , and, although they became the 2nd in the United States , only the substitutes entered the final . Subsequently, due to the refusal to participate in the final of the American pair, Tanit Belbin and Benjamin Agosto had the opportunity to take part in competitions, but refused for medical reasons [5] . After the Grand Prix, the duet and its coaches decided to change the free dance [6] . The duet did not participate in the Russian Championship 2010 due to aggravated knee injury at a partner [7] , but, by decision of the coaching council of the figure skating federation , was included in the national team for the European Championship [8] , where they became bronze medalists. At the Olympics in Vancouver, Yana Khokhlova and Sergey Novitsky, the dance pair competitions finished in ninth place, improving their result four years ago by three positions. A day after the end of the tournament, they flew to Moscow to prepare for the World Championships in Turin , Italy, where they, after completing their amateur career, Oksana Domnina and Maxim Shabalin, were traveling in the status of the first pair [9] . In Turin, the couple performed poorly. In the obligatory program, Khokhlova and Novitsky showed the fifth result, and in the original dance the duet suffered a technical failure - Khokhlova stumbled in the step of steps, and the final points turned out to be disastrous: they were enough only for ninth place. After that, the pair withdrew from the tournament without explanation [10] . Later it turns out that the reason for the refusal to continue the competition was another aggravation of Sergei's knee injury.

On April 29, 2010, Yana Khokhlova and Sergey Novitsky were presented with certificates and badges of the Honored Masters of Sports of Russia in the capital’s “Mechta” sports palace. And on the same day, the athletes told their coaches that they would no longer ride together: Novitsky completes an amateur sports career for health reasons, and Khokhlova will try to continue his career with another partner. Shortly before this, Yana returned from the United States , where she went to watch in the group of Zueva and Shpilband . The coaching tandem put Jan in a pair, first with Lithuanian Deividas Stagniunas and later with Fedor Andreev - the son of Marina Zueva [11] .

On May 28, 2010, the existence of the Khokhlov / Andreev couple was officially announced. The pair trained in with the Zuev / Shpilband coaching tandem [12] .

Their first international start in December 2010 was the Golden Skate of Zagreb tournament, in which they took the 5th place. Then they became the fourth in the championship of Russia , not making their way into the national team to participate in the European and world championships . For the rest of the season they competed in tournaments of category “B” , where they won prizes.

In June 2011, Andreev injured his knee, having fallen badly in training. Later it turned out that the injury was serious enough, the athlete will have an operation [13] , and in September 2011 it became clear that Fedor would not be able to pursue a career in a big sport [14] [15] . Once again without a partner, Yana was also forced to complete her sports career [16] .
