Gabriel Almond ( born Gabriel A. Almond ; January 12, 1911 - December 25, 2002 ) is an American political scientist , a specialist in theoretical and comparative political science. He gained popularity thanks to his work on the theories of the political system and political culture . The author of the structural-functional model. He widely used the concept of "entry and exit" in the analysis of political systems and paid much attention to the study of the corresponding functions. Almond well illustrated the connection between the political orientations of citizens and the particularities of the functioning of the political system.

Biography
Born in Illinois , in a Jewish family of emigrants from the Russian Empire. He graduated from the University of Chicago (bachelor, 1932; doctor, 1938). He taught at Brooklyn College (1939–1942), Yale University (1947–1950, 1959–1963), at Princeton University (1950–1959), and at Stanford University (1963–1993).
He identified 3 types of political culture: parish, which is characterized by a lack of interest in politics; citizenship with a focus on political institutions and a low level of activity of citizens; participatory, which is characterized by a high level of political activity. Civic culture combines elements of 3 types of political culture.
