Scheckter and Villeneuve for the third time this season took the two upper steps of the podium. The victory brought the South African world title in 1979. Alan Jones failed the start and could not compete with two Ferrari. Both Renaults did not reach the finish line due to engine problems. Hector Rebake could not get to the start on a car of his own design.
