Geography
The area occupied by the province is 149,708 km² (20th place). Shaanxi is located in the interior of China, far from the sea, in the middle part of the Yellow River basin, and is divided into two parts by the Weihe River - northern and southern [2] .
History
A province called Shaanxi first appeared under the Song Empire in 996. In 1072, Shaanxi Province was divided into two parts: the western part became Qinfeng Province (秦 凤 路), and the eastern one became Yongsingjun Province (永兴 军 路). In 1078, they were reunified in Shaanxi Province (陝西 路), and in 1085, Shaanxi Province was again divided into Qinfeng and Yongsingjun provinces.
During Mongol rule, Khubilai established the Qin-Shu Field Secretariat (秦 蜀 行省), later renamed the Shaanxi-Sichuan Field Secretariat (陝西 四川 行 中书省). In 1286, the Shaanxi-Sichuan Field Secretariat was divided into two, and the Shaanxi territory was under the jurisdiction of the Shaanxi Field Secretariat (陕西 等处 行 中书省); Ansi Province (安西 路) was established on the lands around Xian in 1279, renamed Fengyuan ((奉 路) in 1312.
After the formation of the Ming Empire, Shaanxi Province was created, which, in addition to the lands of the modern Shaanxi Province, also included parts of the territories of the modern provinces of Gansu, Qinghai, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region and Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.
During the Qing Empire in 1663, Shaanxi Province was divided into "left" and "right." In 1666, the “right Shaanxi” was renamed Gansu province, and the “left Shaanxi” became the Shaanxi province that has survived to this day.
