Career
Vicente de la Mata was born on January 15, 1918 in the quarter of Tablad of the city of Rosario .
He began his career in the children's team of his hometown, Central Cordoba . In 1936, he made his debut in the adult club team, receiving 200 pesos and another 150 pesos per game.
Already at the age of 19, a young footballer was invited to the Argentine national team to perform at the South American Championship in the final match on January 31, in which Brazil de la Mata faced the Argentine national team and scored 2 goals in extra time, bringing his team a victory.
After success at the South American championship, de la Matoy became interested in leading clubs, and in 1937 he joined the Independent , for which he played until 1950, scoring 151 goals in 362 matches and won three championships in Argentina . At Independente de la Mata was part of the club’s famous attack, along with Arsenio Eriko and Antonio Sastre , these three players scored 216 goals in 66 matches (3.3 goals per match).
He played 13 matches in the Argentine national team, in which he scored 6 goals, winning 3 championships in South America.
After leaving Independente, de la Mata spent 2 seasons at Newells Old Boyse , where he scored only 1 goal, and then completed his career.
Died de la Mata on August 4, 1980 from pulmonary emphysema .
