The White Sea military flotilla was created in March 1920, in April transformed into the North Sea Naval Forces. Formed again as part of the Northern Fleet in early August 1941 to protect communications in the White Sea , the eastern part of the Barents Sea and the Arctic . The main base is Arkhangelsk [1] .

For 1920 included:

The White Sea military flotilla included a division of destroyers and patrol ships, a mine-laying division, a trawling brigade , the White Sea coastal defense sector, and the Iokang naval base. For the defense of the straits of Kara Gates , Yugorsky Shar , ports and polar stations as part of the flotilla at the end of August 1941, the Northern detachment was created (bases - Amderma , Dickson Island ), which, along with guard ships and coastal batteries, included an air group and an icebreakers detachment. Subsequently, in connection with the expansion of the operating zone , the Novaya Zemlya [2] (in the Belushiya Bay , 1942) and the Karskaya (on the Dickson Island, 1944) naval bases [1] were formed as part of the White Sea military flotilla.

In April 1945 disbanded [1] . On its base, the Belomorsk Defensive Area was created . In December 1945 the flotilla was recreated. In December 1956, it was transformed into the White Sea Naval Base [3] .
