Jimmy Cliff ( born Jimmy Cliff , real name James Chambers , born James Chambers ; born April 1, 1948 , Jamaica ) is a Jamaican reggae singer and composer. He starred in The Thorny Way (1972), where the piercing ballad Many Rivers to Cross first appeared, becoming the first international reggae hit and opening this musical direction to millions of listeners around the world. Joe Strummer , Sting and Wyclef Jean took part in recording his latest album. After a series of albums, Cliff took a break and went to Africa, and then converted to Islam . [one]
