History
Founded in 1736 as a military fortress on the border of the Russian Empire. Chebarkulskaya fortress defended the south-eastern borders of Russia and was a transit point for the delivery of food to the Cossack troops of the Southern Urals, and later became a large Cossack village.
The fortress was founded with the consent of the Bashkir tarkhan Taymas Shaimov , the owner of the land on which the construction was planned [4] [5] [6] . In return for this, Shaimov received a saber, and the Bashkirs were exempted from taxation. [6] The first version of the fortress was not built according to a typical model, as almost all of the newly built fortifications of that time, but had a type of outpost in which all the necessary buildings and the garrison were inside the walls [7]
In 1774, the Chebarkulsky fortress became an outpost for the troops of the rebel peasants, led by E. Pugachev , who in the fortification prepared for the capture of Chelyabinsk. But the assault was unsuccessful, and the Pugachevites decided to retreat back to the Chebarkul fortress. Having learned that the rebels were defeated by government troops, the Chebarkulites did not hope for the return of the Pugachev detachment. However, Pugachev returned and attacked the fortress in the early morning. The fortress was burned, and its restoration took at least two years. [eight]
During World War II , a plant was evacuated from the city of Elektrostal to Chebarkul. In the shortest possible time, even during the erection of buildings, the plant issued the first products in a new place. Chebarkulsky Metallurgical Plant was the only one in the country that supplied stamping crankshafts, connecting rods and other parts for aircraft engines of all aircraft produced during World War II [9] . Since 1993, the plant became known as OJSC Ural Smithy . One of the streets closest to the plant still bears the name Elektrostal.
By the order of the Government of the Russian Federation dated July 29, 2014 No. 1398-p “On approval of the list of single-industry towns”, the Chebarkulsky urban district is included in the category “Single-industry municipalities of the Russian Federation (single-industry towns) with risks of deterioration of the socio-economic situation” [10] .

Criticism of city leadership
In 2014, the work of the head of the city, Andrei Orlov, was subjected to sharp criticism from both the city deputies and ordinary citizens. There were complaints that the head of the city in time did not give answers to written inquiries and was not engaged in the construction of roads. [36] In March 2014, the Acting Governor of the Chelyabinsk Region, Boris Dubrovsky, was dissatisfied with what he saw in the city, while he did not give a single penny from the regional budget. Andrei Orlov was not part of United Russia. Dubrovsky in Chelyabinsk has its own landscape catastrophe, which it does not notice under its nose. Boris Dubrovsky : [37] And the residents of Chebarkul have already forgotten that it is Andrei Orlov and the entrepreneurs of Chebarkul who need to say thank you for the repair of the hospital.
Honestly, this is a landscape catastrophe. Around one ruins. You move along the road, you say, a resort, but I can hardly imagine how much to do here in order for Chebarkul to become a resort city ... |
