Content
Geography
The village is located on the right bank of the Shura-ozen river in the southern part of the Kumtorkala region , 10 km west of Makhachkala . The Caucasus highway runs along the village. To the west of the village is a railway.
It borders on the lands of settlements: the villages of Tyube and Shamkhal-Termen in the north, Zagorodny in the east, Leninkent in the southeast and the shangoda -Shitlib kutan in the west.
The village is located in the foothill zone of Dagestan. The terrain is mostly flat. To the west of the village, along the valley of the Shura-Ozen river, small elevations stretch. To the south of the village mountains gradually begin to rise. To the south-west of the village is one of the main attractions of the Republic of Dagestan - the Sarykum dune . The average altitude in the village is 61 meters above sea level.
The hydrographic network is mainly the Shura-Ozen river. To the north of the village is a canal named after the October Revolution.
The climate in the village is semi-arid. The average annual air temperature is positive and is about + 12 ° C. The average July temperature is + 25 ° C, the average January temperature is −0.5 ° C. The average annual rainfall is about 350 mm per year. Most precipitation falls in the autumn.
History
It was founded in 1970 through the resettlement of residents of the village of Kumtorkala destroyed by an earthquake. Vinsovkhoz Markovsky was operating in the village.
In 1971, by the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the RSFSR, the village of Kumtorkala was renamed Korkmaskalu, in memory of D. A. Korkmasov , an active participant in the struggle for the establishment of Soviet power in Dagestan. [2] .
