Chanlibel

Chanlibel ( azerb. Çənlibel ) is a village in the Shamkir region of Azerbaijan . The old name until 1991 is Chardakhly (or Chardakhlu , arm. Խաչիսար ). Before the Karabakh conflict, the village had an Armenian population.

Content

History

During the time of the Russian Empire, the village of the Elizavetpol district of the Elizabethpol province . According to the Caucasian calendar for 1908 , the Armenian village with a population of 1862 people. [one]

Known as the birthplace of many heroes of World War II . Of the natives of the village, 1250 people left for the front. Of these, half were awarded orders and medals, two became marshals ( Amazasp Babadzhanyan and Ivan Baghramyan ), twelve - generals , seven - Heroes of the Soviet Union [2] .

In September-October 1987, the first secretary of the Shamkhor district committee of the Communist Party of Azerbaijan M. Asadov came into conflict with the residents of Chardakhly in connection with the protests of the villagers against replacing the director of the state farm with an Azerbaijani Azerbaijani. Since December 1987, the Armenians living in Chardakhli were forced to leave their native village, in fact becoming the first refugees of the Karabakh war [6] [7] , having moved mainly to the Armenian SSR. 310 families from the former population of Chardakhlu moved to the village of Zorakan, Tavush region (formerly the Azerbaijani village of Yukhary Kerpley of the Noyemberyan district) in the north-east of Armenia [8] .
