Nicolae Vasilievici Cantarean ; August 18, 1952 , Kolenkovtsy village, Khotinsky district , Chernivtsi region , Ukrainian SSR , USSR ) - Bishop of the Russian Orthodox Church ; From July 21, 1989 - Metropolitan of Chisinau and All Moldova, head of the self-governing Orthodox Church of Moldova of the Moscow Patriarchate . Permanent member of the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church ( 2000 ). The abbot of the Church of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin in the temple of the city of Moscow [1] .

Biography
Born in an Orthodox family of a hereditary forester, Moldovan .
In 1969 he graduated from high school in his native village.
In 1970 - 1973 he served in Sevastopol in the support units of the Black Sea Fleet ; completed urgent service with the rank of chief ship foreman .
In 1973- 1974 he worked as a driver at the Smolensk Diocesan Administration and as subdeacon of Theodosius (Protsiuk), Bishop of Smolensk and Vyazma.
May 22, 1974 was ordained deacon ; May 22, 1976 - Presbyter to the Assumption Cathedral of Smolensk.
In 1976–1981 , he studied by correspondence at the Moscow Theological Seminary .
In 1981-1989, he was a cleric of St. Nicholas Cathedral in Chernivtsi : in 1983 he was elevated to the rank of archpriest ; 1983-1989 - Secretary of the Diocesan Administration of Chernivtsi.
In 1983-1989 he studied by correspondence at the Moscow Theological Academy .
November 29, 1987, was tonsured a monk ; On January 7, 1988, he was elevated to the rank of hegumen , and by Easter 1988 - to the rank of archimandrite .
On July 7, 1989, at the meeting of the Holy Synod, he was determined to be the Bishop of Chisinau and Moldavia. Hierotonia took place on July 21, 1989.
From September 13, 1989 to 1995, he was a member of the Commission of the Holy Synod on the issues of publishing and church press.
In February 1990, he was nominated as a candidate for people's deputies of the Moldavian SSR, but lost the election.
By Easter 1990, he was elevated to the rank of archbishop .
May 8, 1990 became a member of the Synodal Biblical Commission.
On August 21, 1992, he was elevated to the rank of Metropolitan .
In December 1994, in a report at the ROC Bishops' Council, Patriarch Alexy II thanked Metropolitan Vladimir and the clergy subordinate to him for loyalty to the canonical order and for their hardness in overcoming the schism.
Since 1995 - simultaneously the rector of the Chisinau Theological Seminary.
On July 17, 1997, he was appointed rector of the newly formed Kishinev Theological Academy [2] .
In 1990, 1992, 1996 and 1999 was a temporary member of the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church.
By decision of the Jubilee Council of Bishops in August 2000, he was elected a permanent member of the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church.
December 4, 2017 Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill awarded the right to wear the second panagia .
