Iraj Bashiri ( Pers. ایرج بشیری ) - Professor of History, Literature and Linguistics, University of Minnesota, USA . Born July 31, 1940 in the city of Behbahan ( Iran ). He received primary education in Daman and Daron (Fereydan region). Received secondary education in Isfahan and Shiraz . In 1961 he received a diploma (certificate) in mathematics from the Khoj Kavom gymnasium in Shiraz. In his school years, Bashiri was fond of learning English and in 1959 took part in the All-Iranian school Olympiad in the city of Ramsar and won first place in knowledge of the English language.

From 1960 to 1963 Bashiri continued to study English language and literature at the University of Pahlavi (now Shiraz University ) and in 1963 graduated from it as "the best student of English language and literature." While studying at the university, he worked as a regional correspondent for the Kaihon newspaper in the province of Fars, also taught English at the center of culture of Iran and England and English literature at Pahlavi University in Shiraz.
In 1964, to continue his studies, he left for England, and in 1966 - in the United States . In 1968, he graduated from the Masters in General Linguistics at the University of Michigan . In 1972 he defended his doctoral dissertation in Iranian linguistics. Bashiri's doctoral dissertation was dedicated to Ibn Sina 's research on the verb "to be."
While studying in the United States, he also taught and taught Persian at the University of Michigan, and also participated in the education and training of peacekeepers in Vermont, New York, and New Jersey. In 1972, Dr. Bashiri was admitted to the University of Minnesota as a teacher of Persian and Turkish languages. In 1996 he became a professor at this university.
The teaching activities of Dr. Bashiri cover the following disciplines: Iranian linguistics, Persian literature (poetry and prose), the history of Iran (ancient and modern) and the history of Central Asia and Afghanistan. In 1980, he received the title of best professor of science and literature at the University of Minnesota. Along with teaching, Dr. Bashiri is engaged in research, some of which are devoted to: Sadek Khidayat’s book “Buffy Chickens”, Firdousi ’s poem “ Shahnameh ”, modern history and literature of the republics of Central Asia, Afghanistan , etc.
In 1996, the National University of Tajikistan awarded Professor Bashiri the title of Honorary Doctor of Culture and History, and in 1997 the Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan awarded him the title of Honorary Academician and Foreign Member of the Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan.
In addition to the University of Minnesota, Professor Bashiri lectured at universities in Michigan, Texas, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan.
From 1975 to 1979 Dr. Bashiri led the Center for Central Asian Studies, and later on the South Asian Studies at the University of Minnesota. Between 1987 and 2005 repeatedly elected chairman of the center for research in Russia and Central Asia, and from 2005 to 2007 . was director of the Institute of Linguistics and Literature of the Slavic and Central Asian peoples. Currently engaged in teaching and research activities.
