Henan ( Chinese ex. Р , pinyin : Hénán , literally: “south of the river”) is a province in the east of the central part of China . The administrative center and largest city is Zhengzhou . The population of 94,023,567 people (2nd place among the provinces; data 2010 ).

The province covers an area of 166,310 km² (18th place).
History
Henan is one of the cradles of Chinese culture. On the territory of the province there are the most important archaeological monuments: the ancient settlements of Peyligan (7000 years old), Yanshao (6000 years) and Dahe (5000 years). Over the long history of Chinese civilization, more than 20 empires established or transferred the capitals of their states to Henan. By the number of underground cultural values, Henan in the first place in China, by the number of land-based cultural values - in second place. Three of the seven ancient Chinese capitals are located in Henan - these are Luoyang , Kaifeng and Anyang . In addition, there are three cultural and historical cities of the state level: Nanyang, Shangqiu and Zhengzhou.
The oldest Chinese states are Xia (3 millennium BC) and Shang-Yin, which replaced Xia in the 16th century BC. Oe., originated in the territory of Henan.
Administrative division
Until 2014, the province was divided into 17 urban districts and one city at the sub-district level (a city county that reports directly to the provincial authorities). Since January 1, 2014, another 6 counties and 4 city counties have passed into direct submission to the provincial authorities, and therefore the province is now divided into 17 urban districts, 5 sub-district cities and 6 counties of provincial subordination.

Economy
Over the past two decades, the rapid development of the economy was noted in Henan, and the economy developed at a faster pace than the national average by 10%. This rapid growth has turned Henan from one of the poorest provinces into one of the most promising. In 2011, in Henan GDP amounted to 3.20 trillion. yuan (427 billion US dollars), [1] ranked fifth in the largest economy in China.
Henan has an industrialized economy with an underdeveloped service sector. In 2009, Henan’s primary, secondary, and tertiary industries amounted to 277 billion yuan (40 billion US dollars), 1.097 trillion yuan (160 billion US dollars), and 563 billion yuan (82 billion US dollars), respectively. Agriculture has traditionally been the pillar of its economy. The nation's highest wheat and sesame seeds ensured that rice production reached the second place, earning the reputation of China's breadbasket. Henan is also an important producer of beef, cotton, corn, pork, animal oil. Food production and processing accounts for more than 14% of products from the province in the average industry [2] .
Although Henan Industrial has traditionally been based on the energy, textile and food industries, recent events have made the metallurgy, chemical industry, mechanical engineering and electronics more diverse. Henan is the second largest molybdenum reserves in the world. Coal, aluminum, alkali metals, tungsten are also present in large quantities in the province. Their export and processing is one of the main sources of income.
Henan is actively trying to build its economy around the capital of Zhengzhou province, and there is hope that the region can become an important transportation and manufacturing center in the future. [2] In 2008, trade (export and import) amounted to $ 17.5 billion, including $ 10.7 billion for exports. Since 2002, 7.111 foreign enterprises and foreign investment funds have been approved in the amount of 10.64 billion US dollars . Friendly provincial relations have been established with 16 regions in the United States , Japan , Russia , France , Germany and other countries, as well as with 32 foreign cities . The production of iPhones is launched in the technopark of the capital.
Henan in the service industry is an underdeveloped region of China. Finance and trade are mainly concentrated in urban centers such as Zhengzhou, Luoyang, where the economy is fueled by wealthy consumers. In order to make the economy more technological at the government level, a number of development zones have been created in all large cities, encouraging industries such as software, information technology, new materials for bio-pharmaceutical and photo-electronics. [3] Henan is not a major tourist destination.
Culture
Here are the Shaolin monastery and the cave temples of Longmen . Near Luoyang is the most ancient Buddhist temple in China - Baymasy (White Horse Temple). According to others, the oldest temple in China is located near Danfun, Favansa monastery. " Henan Opera " is one of the traditional genres of Chinese theater.
