Biography

  • Born October 1, 1946 in the city of Krasny Liman, Stalin Region in Ukraine.
  • The first camera was received in 1958, then he began to shoot.
  • From 1961 to 1965 he studied at the Slavic College. From 1965 to 1968 he served in the Soviet Army (Tbilisi, Yerevan).
  • From 1969 to 1974 he studied at the Kharkov Polytechnic Institute.
  • 1979-1985 he studied at the Leningrad Academy of Arts. Repin .
  • In 1974-1976 he founded the Vremya creative group in Kharkov.
  • From 1971 to 1985 he worked as a correspondent in TASS , Evening Kharkov, Red Banner, at the Kharkov Advertising Plant.
  • In 1990-1993, together with Anatoly Mazyuk , he opened the first private gallery in the USSR, MRK, in Tallinn, Estonia.
  • From 1994 to 2001 - General Director of the Rupinkom photo agency .
  • Author of the text: “Diary of a photographer in the KGB archives” .
  • He died in Vilnius on October 22, 2008.

Vremya Group (Kharkov)

Yuri Rupin is a co-founder of the most famous in Ukraine and the USSR as a whole creative group "Time" (1974-1976).

The group also included photographers such as Evgeny Pavlov , Oleg Malevanny , Alexander Suprun , Gennady Tubalev , Boris Mikhailov and Alexander Sitnichenko , and subsequently Anatoly Makienko .
