Pegasos - a motherboard based on PowerPC G3 / G4 processor , has 3 PCI slots, 1 AGP slot, two Ethernet ports (1Gbit and 10 / 100Mbit), USB , DDR , AC97 -compatible sound and Firewire controller. In the spirit of the Apple Macintosh , Open Firmware is used to boot the system.
Pegasos is sold by Genesi and its partners, and bPlan GmBH , located in Frankfurt , Germany , is engaged in development and production.
There are two versions of the motherboard, various revisions: Pegasos and Pegasos II
Features
Pegasos (revisions 1.x)
Pegasos supports an IBM 750CXe processor, an integrated 100Mbps network adapter, and PC133 standard SDRAM. Board production was discontinued after an error was discovered in Mai ArticiaS used as the north bridge. Subsequent revisions of the motherboard were issued with the April patch (since the error was discovered on April 2 ). The final way out was the replacement of the north bridge with Marvell Discovery II. So the second generation of Pegasos motherboards appeared.
The Pegasos motherboard was discontinued in mid- 2003 , however, it still remains a powerful and useful tool for its owners. The board is very similar to its updated version (usually called Pegasos II, or simply Pegasos); their differences boil down to different models of the north bridge, as well as to some changes aimed at increasing overall productivity.
Despite the short production, the old Pegasos board continues to be used by developers and end users. Genesi Corporation is carrying out actions to replace the old revision with the updated Pegasos II, and old-style boards are sent to developers (or sold for symbolic amounts) who cannot afford to buy Pegasos II, but who want to write software for open architecture ( Open Hardware ).

Pegasos II
Pegasos II used the Marvell Discovery II northbridge because it allowed bPlan to upgrade without making major changes to the motherboard architecture. Due to this, they became available: an integrated 1Gbit network adapter, support for DDR memory, the use of the Freescale G4 processor line.
With PowerPC 750CXe (G3), CPU cooling is not required. This fact is used by marketers bPlan and Genesi to advertise the board as "Cool computing" - an absolutely silent computer. Boards sold usually come with a Freescale MPC7447 processor ( PowerPC G4 ) requiring a small fan. Passive cooling is also used in other products based on the Pegasos II board (for example, in the home media center βHome Media and Communication Systemβ).
The motherboard has a modular design, due to this it is easily upgraded to better meet the needs and requirements of the user. The latest interface standards are used, so users can use components common to all modern hardware platforms. Otherwise, the Pegasos platform uses standard PC-compatible devices, such as ATA hard drives , DDR memory modules, CD / DVD drives , video cards , digital cameras , TV tuners and more.
The motherboard is capable of working on one or more processors (this issue is solved by replacing the MegArray processor module) with the same hardware, which favorably distinguishes Pegasos from the mass of other systems. The manufacturer aims to offer attractive boards at affordable prices based on the Power architecture.
The production of the motherboard and processor modules for it was discontinued in the fall of 2006 .
