Biography
Ferdinand David was born on January 20, 1810 in the city of Hamburg. He studied in 1823 - 1824 . at Ludwig Spur and Moritz Hauptmann .
Since 1826, he played the violin in one of the Berlin theaters, since 1835 he lived and worked in Derpt , leading the home quartet of Baron von Lipgart, whom he later married. He undertook a number of tours to Riga, St. Petersburg and Moscow. In 1835 , he was invited by Felix Mendelssohn to take the place of accompanist of the Gewandhaus Orchestra . David performed the premiere of the famous Mendelssohn Concerto for Violin and Orchestra and is believed to occasionally consult the composer in the process of work [2] .
In 1843, also at the invitation of Mendelssohn, David became a professor at the newly created Leipzig Conservatory . His pedagogical activity was very successful: among the students of David - August Wilhelmy , Voldemar Bargil , Nicodemus Bernatsky , Wilhelm Josef von Wazilevsky , Joseph Joachim , Rafal Mashkovsky , Johan Svensen , Friedrich Hegar , Engelbert Roentgen and many others Wolf.
David's composer's legacy includes the comic opera Hans Wacht ( German: Hans Wacht ; 1852 ), two symphonies, five violin concerts, a string sextet, and a significant number of small pieces for violin and song. Concertino is famous for the trombone and orchestra of David - one of the first works written specifically for this instrument.
David acted as editor and publisher of Sonat and Partit for Johann Sebastian Bach's violin solo, Beethoven's piano trios, works by Haydn , Lokatelli , Verachini and others. The publication βHigher School of the Violin Gameβ prepared by David ( German: Die Hohe Schule des Violinspiels ; 1867 - 1872 ) - selected works of composers of the XVII-XVIII centuries, selected for pedagogical needs; David Chacona Tomaso Antonio Vitali was included in this collection by David - as is now commonly believed, written or radically rewritten by David himself.
Ferdinand David died July 19, 1873 in Klosters.
