Development History

The engine was originally developed by Ubisoft Montpellier with the participation of Michel Ancel , the game designer for the Beyond Good & Evil project. The engine got its name in honor of the name of the main character of this game, Jade .

Jade is distinguished by its high flexibility of use and wide graphic capabilities both for creating cinematic videos and for the gameplay . The first version of the engine supports dynamic shading and lighting, facial animation, shader effects (water with reflections and ripples), various post-processing effects, etc.

Since the first game on this engine was released in 2003 , the technology has been constantly refined and changed. Since 2009, Ubisoft began to use the engine in games for portable game consoles and systems with relatively low power, such as Wii .

On the basis of Jade, another game engine of the company (branch) was created - Fox, using which the games Naruto: Rise of a Ninja and Naruto: The Broken Bond were made . One of the changes was support for cell-shader graphics. [one]
