Story
Dara appears in the Amber Palace, as the messenger of Oberon . She talks with Benedict in the throne room, but no one can get there. At the entrance to the throne room, a temporary barrier was erected. Through this barrier, many see Corvin's ghost chop off Benedict's mechanical arm and hide. Dara transmits Oberon's order to start a military operation against the Courts of Chaos.
Oberon is preparing to repair the Labyrinth , which will inevitably lead to his death. Corwin tells his father that he does not want to take the throne of Amber. Thus, the plan of Oberon , aimed at the marriage of Corvin with Dara , and their elevation to the throne, collapses.
Oberon creates the Red Bird of Fate from Corvin's blood and sends Corvin on his way to the Courts of Chaos. He claims that the Bird will not be able to carry Rubin (Stone of Justice) all this distance, but he will catch Corvin on the way. Cards will cease to be valid for a while.
Corwin jumps through the Reflections. He is pursued by Brand , trying to get a stone by cunning, claiming that Oberon died without completing his work. Thus, the only way to save the world is to give the Stone of Justice to him, Brand, so that he can draw a new Labyrinth. The trick failed, but Brand sowed in Corvin's soul the gravest doubts about the success of the mission.
These doubts made Corwin draw a new Labyrinth. Taking advantage of a moment of respite, Brand takes the Stone of Justice from Corvin.
Arriving at the Court of Chaos, Corvin stumbles upon Borel, who has long dreamed of fighting him. Seeing that Corvin is not protected by armor, Borel defiantly removes his defense. However, Corvin, having neither the time nor the strength to measure nobility in useless fights, during a short battle, he catches Borel with a cunning trick, and hits him with his sword. The fatally tired Corwin watches as Benedict’s troops inflict a crushing defeat on the forces of Chaos. He sees his brothers and sisters fighting in the ranks of the Amber.
At that moment Brand appears. Rubin shines on his chest. He takes hostage to Deidra , Corvin's beloved sister. An unknown shooter hits Brand in the throat with a silver arrow. Brand falls into the abyss with Deirdre.
Brand's killer is his brother Cain, who was considered dead. Cain tells Corvin that he believed him guilty - both in Eric's death and in the destruction of the Labyrinth . Therefore, Cain went to one of the Reflections, found his double there, and stabbed him. He did this in order to substitute Corvin. When the trick failed, Cain goes through the Labyrinth and is transported to Corvin's chambers. So Corwin got a stab. Subsequently, having contacted Julian, Cain realized his mistake.
To Corvin Dara approaches. She just met the dying Borel. He told her that Corwin was able to defeat him only with the help of deception, and not in a fair fight. Borel taught her fencing. Dara curses Corvin and says that they will never be together.
Corvin is approached by the same young man who spared him during a previous visit to the Courts of Chaos. This is his son Merlin . They meet and Corwin tells his son his story.
Unicorn rises from the abyss. Rubin is hanging on his horn. The unicorn bows to Random, handing him the Stone of Justice and at the same time the fate of the Amber throne. All present (and Merlin among them) swear allegiance to the King.
Corwin helps Random to tune in to the Stone, so that Random proceeds with the first monarchy act - to protect everyone present from the terrible thunderstorm coming from the north. Corwin is going to sleep, then to go to the Courtyard of Chaos and see the burial of his father Oberon.
