Orthodox composition ( English orthodox composition ) [1] is a region of chess composition that obeys the usual chess rules, where the goal ( checkmate , win or draw), material ( board , pieces ) and means ( rules of the game ) are chess [2] . It includes two groups:
a) study ( English study ) with the task of “win” or “draw” - White starts and wins or draws, while the number of moves of the decision is not limited. The task is also permissible: “Black's move; White wins (draws) ”;
b) a task ( English directmate ) with the condition “checkmate in a certain number of moves” - White starts and declares a checkmate no later than the named move.
