A heel or heel is a convex part of the body on the back of the foot . Consists of calcaneus ( Calcaneus ), located on it fatty tissues and skin . The Achilles tendon ( Tendo calcaneus ) departs from the heel, on both sides of which the skin forms small depressions.
Human foot heel
Because of a man’s erect position, the heel of a person has a much more important function than being just a lever for the Achilles tendon. Therefore, its form is very specific. Walking a person is possible due to the coordination of the heel and the front of the foot. The middle of the heel is a continuation of the axis of the tibia and, depending on the gait, deviates outward or inward.
A group of scientists from institutes engaged in research in the field of sports in the Netherlands and South Africa found that the packer qualities of an athlete depend on the heel length - the shorter the heel, the more economically it consumes energy during a run [1] .
