Geography

The Kanevsky district borders on the Shcherbinovsky and Starominsky regions in the north, in the Bryukhovetsky district in the south, in the Leningrad and Pavlovsky districts in the east, in the Primorsko-Akhtarsky and Yeisk districts in the west.

Location

Located 128 km north of Krasnodar within the Kuban-Priazovskaya lowland . The village lies at the confluence of the Chelbas River (the Sea of ​​Azov basin ) with the tributaries of the Middle Chelbas and Sukhoi Chelbas. Length: 10 km from north to south, 5 km from west to east. The total area of ​​the village is 2399 hectares, the length of the roads is 178.59 km. All this gives the right to call Kanevskaya the largest village in Russia.

Climate

The climate of Kanevskaya is temperate continental with fairly mild, low snowy winters (average January temperature −1 ° C) and hot summers (July +24.1 ° C). About 650 mm of precipitation falls, the main part of them falls at the beginning of summer and at the end of autumn and the beginning of winter.

History

Kanev indigenous village was founded in 1794 [2] by the lieutenant colonel of the Kuban Cossack troops Pavel Zhivotovsky among the first forty villages of the Black Sea Cossacks in the Kuban. The name was transferred from the kuren of the Zaporizhzhya Sich , which, in turn, was named after the Ukrainian city of Kanev .

Population

The largest village of the Kuban and the largest rural settlement in Russia (after giving the status of an urban-type village to the village of Ordzhonikidzevskaya in 2015). In everyday life, mainly among older people, the Kuban dialect (the so-called balachka ) is widespread , in which the vocabulary of the Ukrainian language is still significantly preserved. Kanevskaya, together with the neighboring village of Staroderevyankovskaya on the opposite right bank of Chelbas, form a single settlement with almost 60 thousand inhabitants.

Economics

Kanevskaya is the center of one of the largest agricultural regions in the region, famous for its high grain harvests (more than 70 kg / ha). In addition to two large agricultural enterprises in Kanevskaya there is a Kanevsky bread factory and others. In the village of Staroderevyankovskaya there are a number of powerful enterprises for the processing of agricultural products: the meat factory "Kanevskaya", the company "Caloria", Kanevskaya sugar factory. The Kanevsky gas equipment factory stands out from the large industry.

Since August 22, 1979, a radio mast with a height of 336 meters, which is the highest in the south of Russia , has been located in the village [9] .

Transport

The Rostov-on-Don - Krasnodar railway passes through the village (several electric trains from Timashevsk and Starominsky , express Rostov-Krasnodar). There is a railway station Kanevskaya on the segment Timashevsk - Starominskaya . Daily trains go through Kanevskaya.

The highway Krasnodar - Yeysk passes through the village.

The nearest airport is 140 km away from Krasnodar. Suburban buses: Kanevskaya - Yeysk, Kanevskaya - Primorsko - Akhtarsk, Kanevskaya - Sochi, Kanevskaya - Armavir. Inside the village, passenger transportation is carried out by a network of fixed-route taxis.
