Arkin, Alan

Arkin was born into a family of non-religious Jews, descendants of emigrants from the Russian Empire ^[5] and Germany ^{[6] [7] [8]} . In his youth, he dreamed of a musical career, soloed in the folk group "The Tarriers" ^[9] . He made his Broadway debut with success in the early 1960s and was awarded the Tony Award for one of his first performances. In the drama “ Wait for the Darkness ” he played the psychopathic tormentor of the heroine Audrey Hepburn . For the role of Lieutenant Rozanov in the comedy “ Russians are coming! Russians are coming! "(1966) received the prestigious Golden Globe Award and the first Oscar nomination.

In 1972, Arkin directed the first production of Neil Simon 's play " Comedians ", which eventually became a Broadway classic. He also published several children's novels in the fantasy genre . In 1964, Alan married actress and screenwriter Barbara Dan. In 1967, they had another son, Anthony. After more than 25 years of marriage, they divorced in the mid-1990s.

Since 1996, the actor has been married to psychotherapist Suzanne Newlander.
