Neo (Matrix)

Neo, a programmer, lives in the world of the Matrix, an illusory reality that simulates the end of the 20th century . People were connected to the Matrix to be completely controlled by rebel machines, using people for themselves as a source of energy.

Those who are connected to the Matrix do not understand that the reality around them is actually unreal. However, “free” people who were not connected to the Matrix organized resistance, which from time to time disconnects certain people from the Matrix through a complex procedure.

Among them there is a legend or a prophecy that there is a person who can control the Matrix, change its laws for themselves. In the myth of this person is called the "Chosen One." He became the goal of the search, which Morpheus , the captain of one of the ships of Zion , wondered.

Neo becomes this chosen one and frees mankind from slavery, ending the war with the machines.

The word "Neo" ( English Neo ) is an anagram of the word "One" (from English - "Chosen"), and from Latin and Greek it is translated as "New".

The Matrix

During the day, Thomas Anderson is a regular programmer working for the computer company Metacortex, and at night he is a hacker named Neo. The only question that has tormented him lately is “What is the Matrix?” Morpheus once contacts him, a man who, according to Neo, knows the answer to his question. It was at that moment that Neo fell under the supervision of the Matrix, and the Agents, programs searching for Morpheus, began to hunt for him. Agents arrest Neo. Agent Smith is trying to persuade Neo to talk about the "dangerous terrorist" Morpheus. However, Neo refuses. Then the Agents put a bug on Thomas and let go.

When Morpheus again contacts Neo, he sets up a meeting with him. Neo does not meet Morpheus, but instead gets acquainted with part of his team. After an unpleasant bug extraction procedure, Neo finally meets with Morpheus. Morpheus says that he cannot tell Neo what the Matrix is, but he can show and offers a choice : either Neo swallows the blue pill and forgets everything like a dream, or swallows the red pill and gets the opportunity to “find out how deep the rabbit hole”. Neo makes a choice and comes to his senses, entangled in cables in a capsule, where he spent his whole life. He is disconnected from the Matrix, Morpheus takes him to his ship Nebuchadnezzar and talks about the Matrix and the real world. Morpheus says that he believes that Neo is the Chosen One and talks about prophecy.

During their return, Cypher betrays Morpheus' command, and during the battle with agents, Morpheus is captured by them. At the same time, Cypher returns to the ship, insidiously destroys almost the entire team, except for Neo and Trinity , but dies at the hands of the awakened Tenk. Tenk proposes to kill Morpheus so that he does not reveal to the agents the secret code of Zion. But Neo, remembering the prediction, decides to save Morpheus. Together with Trinity, he enters the building where they hold Morpheus, and fight his way to the roof, where he meets Agent Jones. Neo-unusual way dodges Jones' shots and thereby distracts him. Trinity manages to get close to Jones and shoot him in the head. By helicopter Neo and Trinity fly up to the floor on which Morpheus is held. Neo shoots agents out of a minigun , allowing Morpheus to free himself from his chains and jump onto a helicopter. So Neo and Trinity manage to save Morpheus, who immediately asks Trinity: “Now do you believe?” They get to the phone on the subway. Morpheus and Trinity exit the Matrix, but Neo does not have time to do this, as Agent Smith destroys the phone.

Neo enters into a deadly duel with him, despite the fact that Smith excels him in skill. At the end, Neo throws Smith under the train and runs away. But agents follow him. After a short chase, Neo gets to the room with the phone, on the threshold of which Smith meets him and shoots the hero point-blank. Neo is dying. After that, a scene is shown in the real world where Trinity says that Pythia predicted that she would fall in love with the Chosen One and, therefore, Neo could not die. Then a software error occurs, and Neo comes to life. Shocked Agents open heavy fire, but can no longer even injure Neo, as he stops the bullets. Neo gets the opportunity to see the code of the Matrix, after which he penetrates Smith and destroys it.

Neo leaves a message for cars on the phone:

I know you can hear me. I feel you. I know you are afraid ... afraid of us, afraid of change. I do not know the future. I will not predict how it will end. I’ll just say where it starts. Now I will hang up and then show people what you wanted to hide. I will show them the world without you. A world without dictatorship and prohibitions. A world without borders. A world where everything is possible. What will happen next is up to us.

He hangs up and soars into the sky.

Matrix Reboot

He finally fully understands how to manipulate the Matrix - he can fly, has incredible strength and speed, has telekinetic and healing abilities; almost invulnerable. He and Trinity become lovers.

Neo, not understanding his purpose, is looking for a meeting with Pythia. Machines send 250 thousand Hunters to drill the earth, reach Zion and destroy it. All ships return to Zion for his defense. It’s still not easy to perceive yourself as the Chosen One, the people of Zion present him with gifts, considering him God, and ask him to protect their sons and daughters who are in the Matrix. Soon a message comes from Pythia, in which she makes an appointment. Contrary to orders, Morpheus leaves the team with Zion.

Neo meets Pythia and tries to find out her purpose from her. She gives him the task to find the Key Master, who can find any loophole in the Matrix system. The master of keys will lead Neo to his goal - the Source, the heart of the Matrix. But the Key Master is in custody of the old program - Merovingen. Seraph advises the Oracle to leave immediately; former Agent Smith appears. Neo understands that Smith's code was strangely rebuilt, and now he is not an Agent, but a kind of virus that can create its own clones from ordinary people and programs. Neo enters the fray with two hundred Smith clones, but cannot defeat them all and flies away.

Morpheus, Trinity and Neo come to Merovingen , who refuses to give them the Key Masters . But his wife, Persephone, is ready to do this for the sake of Neo's kiss (she wants revenge on her husband who cheated on her). Neo fulfills her request and meets with the Key Master, who has long been waiting for the Chosen One. The enraged Merovingen appears. Morpheus and Trinity run away with the Keymaster, and Neo remains to fight the Merovingen programs. After the victory, Neo finds himself in a mansion in the mountains 500 miles from the city. He takes off and flies at the call of Morpheus asking for help. Neo saves him and the Key Masters from the explosion of colliding trucks on the freeway.

Finally, thanks to the planned operation, Neo, Morpheus and the Keymaster penetrate the building where the Source is located. There they again meet Smith and his clones. The master of keys before the death manages to indicate the desired door and give the key to it. Morpheus returns to the ship, and Neo enters the Source.

There he meets the Architect - the creator of the Matrix. Neo learns the truth about the fiction of "prophecy." He learns that he is already the sixth “Chosen One”. Zion has been destroyed by machines five times. The architect offers Neo a choice: either he selects several people and restarts the Matrix, or he saves Trinity, which the Agent kills. In the latter case, a systemic crisis with the death of all people connected to the Matrix and the destruction of Zion will mean the total extinction of the human species. Neo understands that the Chosen One is also a means of control. He decides to save Trinity.

At incredible speed, he sweeps around the city and manages to catch Trinity when she falls from the window of a skyscraper. The agent managed to mortally wound her, but Neo, using his strength, brings her back to life.

Neo and Trinity exit the Matrix. Neo tells everything to Morpheus, who cannot believe it. Suddenly, Nebuchadnezzar is attacked by watch robots, one of them launches a homing bomb, but Morpheus and his crew manage to leave the board. Neo stops and says: "Something has changed, I feel them." As the sentinels draw near, Neo acts on them with the power that he possessed only in the Matrix. After that, he falls to the ground without feeling. He and the others were saved by another ship, the Hammer, which also found another survivor: Bane, a crew member from another ship. They talk about the failure of the attack, someone fired from an electromagnetic cannon, immobilizing all the ships, the arriving cars massacred. But no one knows that Bane’s brain is controlled by one of Smith’s clones that has penetrated the real world, the purpose of which is to kill Neo.

The Matrix: Revolution

Neo wakes up in a strange place, like a metro station. He meets a family of programs that tell him that this place serves as a transition between the real world and the Matrix and that this station is the property of the Explorer who serves Merovingen. Neo tries to get on the train to the Matrix, but the Explorer throws him away. Neo is trapped between two worlds. After an unsuccessful attempt to catch the Explorer in the subway, Morpheus, Trinity and Seraph come to Merovingen, in exchange for Neo, he offers them to bring the eyes of the Oracle. Trinity offers him another deal - either he returns Neo, or they all die. Merovingen agrees to the first.

Neo understands that the Oracle was right: the Chosen One must come to the Source to stop the war. But the Architect changed the Prophecy, persuading Neo's predecessors to take the path of rebooting the Matrix and destroying Zion. Neo comes to Pythia for the last time and learns that he should not think about cars, but about Smith, who, having multiplied, can lead to the destruction of the Matrix, the death of all people and the destruction of the City of Cars. The Pythia also speaks of the incorrect approach of the Architect: “You and I cannot understand the consequences of our own choices, but he cannot understand the very existence of any choice.” The oracle says that Neo now has the strength to stop the war: "Everything that has a beginning has an end, Neo." Neo has to sneak into the super-protected City of Cars and offer his help in the fight against out-of-control Smith.

Neo and Trinity take the Logos, which had previously been operated by Morfeus Niobe's former lover, and set off for the City of Cars. Suddenly, Bane Smith attacks them. During a fierce battle, he blinds Neo (who from this time begins to see Smith in the form of a matrix code) and dies at his hand. Neo, using his strength, makes his way to the City of Cars, but the ship takes damage and falls near the Source. Trinity is dying.

Neo meets the Main Computer, and offers to stop Smith in exchange for peace between people and Machines. The offer is accepted. The Main Computer connects Neo to the Matrix and he sees that Smith completely flooded it with his clones. Neo enters the fray with Smith. The battle seems endless, as the opponents are equal in strength. Destructive battle takes place on the ground and in the air. Finally, with incredible strength, Smith throws Neo to the ground, which creates a huge crater. But Neo is invincible, they continue a meaningless battle. Neo realizes that he will not be able to win by force, and allows Smith to turn himself into his next clone.

Smith triumphs, not yet realizing that he made a fatal mistake. In accordance with the main tagline of the third episode - “Everything that has a beginning - has an end”, the Matrix seeks to maintain balance in the equation by creating new or eliminating old variables. Having shown, at one time, supernatural abilities in the matrix, Neo became an anomaly for her. The system balanced itself by creating a new Smith, who was able to copy his code. Destroying Neo, Smith signed himself a death sentence, since by this he destroyed the reason for his rebirth. Through the body of Neo, the Main Computer manages to remove Smith from the Matrix. Its shell begins to crack and explode, with all the incarnations of Smith, the same thing happens throughout the Matrix. Smith and his clones disappear in a flash of bright light.

Neo's body is taken away on the platform, the attack on Zion stops. Now any person in the Matrix can, at will, disconnect from her. Peace comes to people.

At the end of the film, the Matrix reboots. Sati, a young program, meets with Pythia and creates a colorful sunrise in honor of Neo. Sati asks the Oracle if she will see Neo again, to which she replies: “I think so. Once".

Neo has extraordinary powers in the Matrix, such as telekinesis , which allows Neo to move objects. Neo can also fly at superhigh speeds and jump over great distances. In The Matrix: Reloaded, he flies from the Merovingen mansion to the freeway - about 500 miles in 15 minutes, which means that he flies at a speed three times the speed of sound. In addition, Neo has superhuman strength and dexterity and can withstand blows that an ordinary person is not able to bear. He also knows how to evade bullets, like Agents, or to stop them. Neo owns all the well-known fighting techniques, constantly combining them during the fight, and can bring people back to life.

In reality, Neo can feel the Machines and see them in the form of a golden glow (like the programs in the Matrix), he is also able to destroy them with the power of thought. Once, in a dream, he saw the death of his beloved, later Pythia tells him: “You see the world without time,” that is, Neo is able to foresee the future.

During interrogation in the first film, Agent Smith opens a folder with the Neo case, which contains the following data:

Neo is a character in the episode "The Story of a Child" in the anime " Animatrix ."

The protagonist of the episode Michael Karl Popper comes to life surrounded by Neo and Trinity . The guy whispers that he knew they would save him, but in response he hears that he saved himself. The episode ends with the answer to his question in the chat - "you are not alone."

In the film " The Matrix: Reloaded ", the young man meets (apparently from a conversation of heroes, not the first time) Neo upon his return to the city. The guy thanks him for the salvation, but Neo claims that he saved himself.
