Imza is a river in the Nizhny Novgorod region , the left tributary of the Urga , the largest tributary of this river. The length of the river is 91 km, the catchment area is 716 km² [2] . 62 km from the mouth, it takes the Rakitka River on the left.

General data
The source is located near the village of Pesochnoe of the Knyaginino district , 13 km southwest of the city of Knyaginino . The river flows north, northeast and east. The upper course lies in the Knyagininsky district, the middle - in the Lyskovsky district . In the lower reaches, it serves as the border between the Lyskovsky and Spassky regions , below - between Vorotynsky and Spassky.
The largest settlement on the river is the city of Knyaginino . In addition to it, the river flows through villages and villages of Solovievo (Knyagininsky district); Sushchevo, Gugino, Negonovo, Lenkovo, Nikolskoye, Berendeevka, Vladimirovka, Saurovo, Belozerich , Vargani (Lyskovsky district); Nikolaevka, Olgino (Vorotynsky district). Between the villages of Belozerich and Vargana on the river is a network of drainage ditches. Tributaries - Rakitka , Stepanovka, Kurgan (left); Princess, Basman (right).
Shortly before the mouth, on the right bank of the river is the village of Krasnaya Gorka . Below the village of Imza flows into Urga . The width of the river at the mouth is about 25 meters; in the lower reaches forms backwaters and islands.
Etymology
It is believed that the name of the river comes from the Mordvinian word “Inzay” - raspberries [3] . The river bore other names (Ilse, Livza, Liviza), the origin of which is unknown [4] .
History
In the second half of the XIX - early XX centuries, Urga was considered a tributary of the Imza, and not vice versa [5] . These ideas are reflected in a number of encyclopedic ( ESBE ) and reference ( State Water Register ) publications.
Water registry data
According to the state water register of Russia, it belongs to the Upper Volga Basin District , the water sector of the river is Sura from the mouth of the Alatyr river to the mouth, and the river sub-basin is Sura. The river basin - (Upper) Volga to the Kuibyshev reservoir (without the Oka basin) [2] .
