Contest History
The Miss World contest appeared in the UK thanks to Eric Morley in 1951. At first, only invited models participated in it, then a peculiar selection system was formed - the Miss World franchise . Until the end of his days, Eric Morley remained the unchanged leader and . Since 2000, his wife, Julia Morley, has become the co-chair of the organizing committee.
Along with its competing contests Miss Universe and Miss Earth , this event is one of the most famous beauty competitions in the world. The television audience of the final show covers viewers in more than 200 countries on all continents.
The competition was originally organized as a festival of beauties in bikinis and was called “Miss World” only thanks to the British press . It was originally planned as a one-time event. Having learned about the upcoming Miss Universe 1952 show, Eric Morley decided to make his competition also annual.
The negative reaction to the appearance of young models in bikinis in public led to the use of more modest bathing suits. In 1959, the BBC began broadcasting the final stage of the competition, which made the show's popularity noticeably higher.
Since the 1980s, intelligence tests and a variety of creative tasks have been added to the competition. However, the competition is seen in its native Britain as old-fashioned and rather boring.
Miss World traditionally lives in London for one year, demonstrating in the highest society the most fashionable outfits, as well as traveling to different countries with charitable purposes.
Six times in the history of the contest, participants from Venezuela became its winners.
Since November 19, 2017, the title of Miss World belongs to the representative of India, Manushi Chhillar .
Competition Stages
Semifinal
Among the participants, 5 different contests are held (a bikini contest, a talent contest, sports, models, charity), the winner of each of which goes to the semifinals. However, starting in 2015, the organizers decided to abandon the viewing of bathing suits, fully focusing on the personal qualities of the participants [3] .
Final
Of the 10 semi-finalists, the 5 most beautiful girls are selected for the final fashion show in evening dresses from the best British fashion designers.
