History
Grouping , After Dark and TCSiF (2002-2005)
The group, which initially included vocalist / bassist Tyson Stevens, guitarists Chad Crawford, DJ Wilson (who later became bassist) and Steve Kirby, keyboardist Puyan Afkari and drummer Peter Costa, recorded EP , After Dark , while all of its members were still high school students (later this EP was reissued by Immortal Records in 2005 ). The members of the group decided to devote more time to creativity and then they began working on low-paying jobs and took loans to finance their first tours.
From February to March 2005, SKSK recorded their first album, The City Sleeps in Flames , produced by Brian McTernan. The album was released by Immortal Records on June 28, 2005 . The album received quite good reviews, in support of it video clips were shot for the 2 most successful singles - “The Only Medicine” and “My Darkest Hour”.
Scary Kids Scaring Kids (2006—2007)
Scary Kids Scaring Kids , released on August 28, 2007 and produced by Don Gilmore (previously working with bands such as Linkin Park and Good Charlotte ) in North Hollywood, California , is the result of the band’s tremendous effort, as the band spent most of 2007 time on tour. SKSK wanted to create an organic album, not just a collection of songs put together. This was achieved by smoothly pouring one song into another, creating a separate introduction to the album (“Prelude”) and its conclusion (“The Power of Resolution”), as well as referring from subsequent songs to previous ones (“Power of Resolution” -> “ Set Sail "). As for the texts, their main topics are from the search for truth, self-knowledge to the struggle for what you believe in. SKSK were so pleased with their creation that they gave it the same name.
In January 2008, the group was awarded the Libby Prize from PETA for participating in one of its campaigns. And this despite the fact that none of SKSK is a vegetarian .
Label change, follow-up album, band break-up (2008—2010)
SKSK left Immortal before closing and signed to RCA Records. During the fall tour with Anberlin, Straylight Run and There For Tomorrow, the band announced work on their next album right after the tour ended. The release was scheduled for October 2009.
Vocalist Tyson did not participate in the last 4 days of The Warped Tour 2009, which is why vocalists Escape the Fate, Saosin, Emarosa and Yesterdays Rising sang for him at that time.
On November 30, 2009, the keyboard player of the group Puyang wrote an official message from the group, in which he spoke about the impending collapse of the group according to the general decision of all its members.
Scary Kids' farewell tour Scaring Kids took place from January to March 2010. James Etridge, who has been the drummer of the band for the past few years, did not take part in this tour. Instead, he played Derek Smith, who also supported SKSK with his hip-hop project Mod Sun.
The album, recorded by the group in 2009, will not be released and generally presented in any form to a wide circle of listeners, since at that moment when the group decided on the breakup, the vocals had not yet been superimposed on the music.
SKSK's farewell performance took place on March 6, 2010 at Soma Club, San Diego, California.
After the band disbanded, guitarist Chad Crawford, along with Drop Dead members , Gorgeous formed Curses.
On October 21, 2014, Tyson Stevens was found dead. The cause of death, presumably, was an overdose of heroin .
