Sports Biography

Tanya in 2002

World Junior Champion 1997 in slalom. In the same year she made her World Cup debut. In 2005, Tanya won the World Cups in the standings of slalom and giant slalom, becoming the first skier from Finland to achieve such success (among men in 2003, the Finn Kalle Palander won in the standings of slalom). In the overall standings of the World Cup that year, Tanya was fifth, which is also the highest achievement for Finnish skiers.

In the same 2005, Poutiainen won 2 silver medals at the World Championships in Bormio . In slalom, she lost 18 hundredths of a second to Janice Kostelic , and in the giant slalom by 20 hundredths, Anya Persona overtook Tanya.

At the 2006 Olympics in Turin, Tanya managed to win another silver: in the giant slalom, Tanya was the only one who lost to champion Julia Mancuso in less than a second - the gap was 67 hundredths. Silver Poutiainen became the first Olympic award in the history of skiing in Finland. In slalom Tanya remained the sixth.

In the 2008/09 season, Tanya won the Small Crystal Globe for the second time in her career in the classification of giant slalom, only thanks to her second place at the last stage in Sweden, beating Austria's Catherine Zettel [2] . In the overall standings of the World Cup, Tanya, gaining 914 points, became the 5th, as in 2005. At the 2009 World Championships in the French Val d'Isere, Tanya replenished her collection of awards with two bronze medals in slalom and giant slalom.

In total, during her career Tanya started more than 250 times at the World Cup, 48 times rose to the podium (at least two times a season for 12 consecutive seasons from 2001/02 to 2012/13) and won 11 stages - 6 in slalom and 5 in giant slalom (Tanya is the only Finnish alpine skier in history to win the World Cup stages, all 14 victories of Finnish men on Kalle Palander’s account). The first victory was won by Poutiainen in February 2004 in Finnish Levi , and the last in January 2011 in Austrian Flachau . The victory in Flachau made Tanya the oldest in age history to be the winner of slalom at the World Cup stages - at the time of victory she was 30 years and 9 months old (soon this achievement was taken away from the Finnish by her long-time rival in slalom Marlies Schild ). 12 consecutive seasons (2001/02 - 2012/13) Tanya was among the top 15 according to the results of the overall World Cup standings.

Three times in a row (2004, 2005 and 2006) Tanya was recognized as the best athlete of the year in Finland. Multiple champion of Finland in slalom and giant slalom.

He currently resides in Swiss St. Gallen . He speaks Swedish and English.

In March 2013, she was seriously injured: a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament of the knee. In September 2013, she began to train again [3] . She completed her career in March 2014.
