The history of civil aviation on the islands dates back to 1955 , when three local residents - a director, a pilot and a young specialist - decided to create the Cape Verde Air Club. Their goal was to train new pilots and search for the aircraft that best meets the conditions of the archipelago.
The growing need for communication between the islands has led to the growth of the company. After the first small Tiger Moth, they bought a twin-engine 9-seater Dove (DH104 Dove), and then two 5-seater amphibious Grumman G-44 Widgeon .
In 1958, the Air Club was transformed into the Transportes Aéreos de Cabo Verde Company (TACV). At the beginning she was engaged only in air transportation of passengers, cargo and mail within the archipelago. Over the years, TACV expanded its air traffic and began international transportation of immigrants and tourists living on different continents.
Now company TAKV operates flights to Europe, Africa, South and North America.
