Biography

Hans Adolf Krebs was born on August 25, 1900 into a Jewish family [5] . His father, Georg Krebs, was an operating otorhinolaryngologist, his mother was Alma Krebs (née Davidson). He was the middle of three children.

  • 1919 - 1924 : studied in Göttingen , Freiburg , Munich , Berlin
  • 1924 - 1930 : worked for Otto Warburg
  • since 1930 : worked in a clinic
  • 1932 - 1933 : taught at the University of Freiburg , from where, due to Jewish descent, he was fired after the Nazis came to power in April 1933.
  • 1933 - 1935 : worked at Cambridge University , where he was admitted in July 1933 with the assistance of D. G. Hopkins .
  • 1935 - 1954 : worked at the University of Sheffield
  • 1954 - 1967 : worked at Oxford University
  • since 1967 - professor at the Royal Hospital at Oxford .

Hans Adolf Krebs died on November 22, 1981 in Oxford.

Son - British zoologist John Krebs (born 1945).

Major works

He made a major contribution to the development of the tricarboxylic acid cycle (Krebs cycle) . In 1932 he described the ornithine cycle of urea synthesis in animal liver .
