History
The formation of the division began in the city of Slobodsky, Kirov Region in December 1941 on the basis of the Directive of NCO 3211 of 11/28/1941 as the 401th Infantry Division. Soon the formation was moved to Kolomna . Staffing was carried out mainly from conscripts of the Moscow , Ivanovo , Yaroslavl region , Chuvash republic . By order of the Deputy People’s Commissar of Defense E. A. Shchadenko dated 01/05/1942 the division was renamed the 135th Infantry Division, the okrug order to rename the division was issued on 01/07/1942 (Historical note of the 135th Infantry Division of the 2nd formation in TsAMO).
As part of the army, from 02/15/1942 to 04/05/1943, from 12/12/1943 to 09/13/1943, from 11/03/1943 to 05/06/1944, from 06/17/1944 to 12/01/1944, and from 12/20/1944 to 05/09/1945.
It was sent to the front on 02.10.1942 according to the directive of the Supreme High Command Headquarters under number 1700966, loading began on 02.13.1942 at the Golutvin station , located in the center of Kolomna . The first train to leave the station was the 396th Rifle Regiment. Units of the division were unloaded at the station of Andreapol , partly - Toropets , scattered engage in battles. It became part of the operational group of troops of the Kalinin Front. 02/28/1942 at the station Bologoe suffered losses from aviation, began to engage in counter-attack battles near the cities of Andreapol , Toropets , Staraya Toropa , Bely . During March-April 1942, and partially in May 1942, heavy battles were fought in the area of the village of Bor, now in the Smolensk region . Only during the period from 03/28/1942 to 05/15/1942, 260 people died in the vicinity of the village of Bor, Glintsevo - 300, Gudilovo - 80, Zaleksonovka - 400, without missing persons.

A local resident, Pyotr Babaev, said that an army field hospital was located in one of the houses in the village of Bor. Probably, it was a medical unit of the 497th regiment of the 135th SD. So, from 40 to 60 soldiers and commanders who died in that medical unit were buried right in the infield near the house. And the owner of the compound - Alexander Imoshinny after the war was forced to exhume the dead on his own initiative, and absolutely independently
07/05/1942 the division was surrounded in the area of the city of Bely , retreated in early July 1942 from the White on the road Pushkari - Egorie,
07/31/1942 a bloodless division (about 1,000 people left the encirclement) was withdrawn to the reserve in the Torzhok region, where it was supposed to arrive in accordance with the directive 12.08.1942
On November 25, 1942, as part of the 39th Army of the Kalinin Front, it took part in Operation Mars , with 4,324 people killed, wounded and missing in the first week of fighting.
In March 1943, she took part in the Rzhev-Vyazemsky operation , in April 1943, apparently suffering serious losses, she was put into reserve. Replenished and rested in Kaluga . 07/12/1943 included in the Western Front , and 07/30/1943 in the Bryansk Front .
On July 20, 1943, he took part in the Oryol offensive operation , crossed the River Resseta on the same day, but, having met stubborn resistance, stopped. The next day, the division managed to capture the village of Moilovo and cut the road Moilovo-Ktsyn. During the operation, she fought in the Karachev region.
Then, in September 1943, he took part in the Bryansk offensive operation , pursuing the retreating enemy, and was assigned to the reserve.
10.24.1943 was transferred to the 1st Ukrainian Front to strengthen its right wing, from 06.11.1943 it advanced from the forest south of Dacha Pushcha Voditsa and in the direction of Belgorodka, Bobritsa, Budaevka, Veta Pochtovaya. On November 10, 1943, it pursued the enemy in the direction of Kotlyarka , but due to the enemy’s successful counterattack on the 71st Infantry Division on November 12 , 1943 , it was forced to abandon its positions, some units were encircled, left the battlefield, and the division went on the defensive.
From December 24, 1943, she took part in the Zhytomyr-Berdychiv operation , advancing almost to the approaches to Vinnitsa during the second half of January 1944, waged heavy defensive battles, was surrounded by the end of January 1944, and received an order to leave the encirclement on January 29, 1994. Then, she participated in the Proskurovsky-Chernivtsi operation , in particular, from 11 to 24.04.1944, she waged heavy defensive battles in the area of the villages of Gorodishche, Denisov and Kupchintsy ( Ternopil region )
In June 1944, she was transferred as part of a corps to the border of the Svir River , to participate in the Svir-Petrozavodsk operation , however, during the operation, like the entire corps, she was not transferred to the Karelian Isthmus , where she took part in the Vyborg operation , advancing northeast of Vyborg . At the end of the operation, she guarded the USSR border on the Karelian Isthmus from the Vuoksa River to the Gulf of Finland , then it was withdrawn to the reserve and relocated to Poland along the routes Vyborg , Likhoslavl , Torzhok , Vyazma , Bryansk , Korosten , Lviv , Rzeszow . By the end of December 1944, it was at the place of deployment. 01/06/1945 made a march to the area of concentration.
Before the start of the Sandomierz-Silesian operation, it was located in the area of Wojków, Clay Welski, Volia Plavska, Trzesní and Durdy on the right bank of the Vistula River in the second echelon of the front. During the army offensive, which began on 01/14/1945, it was also in the second echelon, entered the battle near Krakow on 01/18/1945, took part in the liberation of the city on 01/19/1945, and also liberated the city of Chzhanow on 01/24/1945 during the operation.
01/29/1945 approached the Oder and in the evening of 01/30/1945 forced him, capturing the bridgehead.
Took part in the Lower Silesian operation , acting on the auxiliary direction and practically did not advance, from 10.02.1945 switched to defense, alternating it with private offensive operations, from 01.03.1945 switched to stiff defense on the west bank of the Oder in the Klagenau strip, one of the regiments in the first line of defense and having two regiments in the second echelon of the corps in the areas of Scheinau , Eichrod is ready to counterattack in the directions of Friedenau , Klagenau , Mullengrud , Langliben . From 08 to 15.03.1945, conducts defensive battles in the entrusted area.
From March 15, 1945 , she took part in the Upper Silesian operation , acting as part of the army’s strike group on the first day, took Langliben , then with fights advanced to the line southwest of Kozel , threatening communications.
In the last days of the war, it fought on the outskirts of Breslau with the aim of eliminating the encircled enemy force.
