Leaflet (part of the sheet)

Leaflet is the apical or lateral part of a complex leaf . It consists of petiole and plate [1] [2] .

A complex leaf consists of several leaflets located on a common petiole (called rachis . The leaves, in addition to their leaf blade, can have their own petiole (which is called petiole , or secondary petiole ) and their stipules (which are called stipules , or secondary stipules ). In a complex sheet, each plate falls separately. Since each leaf of a complex leaf can be considered as a separate leaf, it is very important to identify the location of the petiole when identifying a plant. Complex leaves are characteristic of some higher plants, such as legumes .

  • In palmate (or fingernail ) leaves, all leaf blades diverge in radius from the end of the root like fingers of a hand. The main petiole is absent. Hemp ( Cannabis ) and horse chestnut ( Aesculus ) are examples of such leaves.
  • In cirrus leaves, leaf blades are located along the main petiole. In turn, cirrus leaves can be pinnate , with an apical leaf blade, for example, ash ( Fraxinus ); and pinnate , without apical plate, for example, plants from the genus Swietenia .
  • In double-leafed leaves, the leaves are divided twice: the plates are located along the secondary petioles, which in turn are attached to the main petiole; e.g. albitsia ( Albizia ).
  • Three-leafed leaves have only three plates; for example, clover ( Trifolium ), beaver ( Laburnum ).
  • Cirrus leaves resemble cirrus leaves, but their plates are not completely separated; for example, some mountain ash ( Sorbus ).
  • Unpaired leaf, Rose ( Rosa )

  • Finger Leaf, Horse Chestnut ( Aesculus hippocastanum )

  • Palm leaf, Hellebore black ( Helleborus niger )

  • Complex hemp leaf

  • Ten Leaf Leaf Acacia

  • mimosa leaf with folding leaves.
