Biography
Joachim Tartakov was born in Odessa into a Jewish family [1] . He graduated from the St. Petersburg Conservatory , a student of Camillo Everardi . He made his debut with great success in 1881 in Odessa . The next year he sang in St. Petersburg, performed until 1884 on the stage of the Imperial Mariinsky Theater , worked as a teacher in the music school named after N. A. Rimsky-Korsakov . Then he toured the country for several years, singing in Kiev , Tbilisi , on the stages of provincial opera houses. In 1894 he returned to St. Petersburg and until the end of his life performed at the Mariinsky Theater, and since 1909 he also held the position of chief director. He toured in England , Germany , Denmark .
Since 1920 I.V. Tartakov is a professor at the Petrograd Conservatory. In 1923 he was awarded the title of Honored Artist of the Republic.
According to conductor Anton Sharoev and writer Osip Dymov (based on rumors common at that time [2] ), he was the illegitimate son of Anton Rubinstein ; Sharoev claims that Tartakov’s illegitimate son was his father, pianist Georgy Sharoev , who in his youth spoke with Tartakov as an accompanist and appeared on posters as Georgy Tartakov [3] .
I.V. Tartakov died on January 22, 1923 from injuries sustained in a car accident on Obukhov Defense Avenue when he returned from a concert for workers [4] .
Creativity
The first performer in Russia of the title part in Tom ’s opera Hamlet , as well as the first performer at the Mariinsky Theater of the Parties Grigory Gryaznoy (The Tsar’s Bride by N. Rimsky-Korsakov ), Zurga (The Seekers of Pearls by J. Bizet ), Don Carlos ( " Stone Guest " by A. Dargomyzhsky .
