History
The party considers itself the successor to the Macedonian Communist Party , which ceased to exist during the collapse of the SFRY . Already in 1989, the Union of Communists of Macedonia was renamed the Union of Communists of Macedonia - the Party of Democratic Transformations and, under this sign, participated in multi-party elections in the republic in 1990 [1] . The XI Party Congress (April 21, 1991) decided to rename it the Social Democratic Union of Macedonia [2] . Disagreeing with this, the party members in 1992 formed the Union of Communists of Macedonia - the Freedom Movement [2] .
