History
In the late 1970s, a competition was announced for the best design of the Minsk Palace of the Republic. The idea of building the Palace of the Republic belongs to Peter Masherov . In 1976, the design began at the Minskproject Institute under the guidance of architects Y. Grigoriev and Y. Shpit. Construction began in 1985, but was suspended due to lack of funding in the early 1990s. The opening of the Palace of the Republic took place on October 3, 1997, while finishing work in the Grand and Small Halls continued until 2001 [2] .
Decoration and decoration
During the construction, various technological innovations were used, which had never been applied in the republic before. In particular, continuous concreting was performed for the first time; decoration of the building with natural stone [2] .
The building of the Palace is decorated with granite , brought from Bashkortostan . The composition of granite used in the finishing includes iron, which under the influence of moisture and temperature drops is subjected to oxidation, with the result that yellow rust stains appear. The bottom of the Palace is faced with another kind of granite - rapakivi , which is interesting in its design: a uniform color, in the structure of which large inclusions are distinctly distinguished - sections of crystals [3] .
Grand Hall Complex
The large hall has a capacity of 2,700 seats; it has several levels: an orchestra, an amphitheater, a balcony, six side boxes and two government boxes. It is equipped with a cinema complex, which also allows film festivals to be held there [4] .
The reception hall is located at the level of the balconies of the Great Hall and can accommodate up to 1000 people. From there, a panoramic view of the city.
Reception halls can be used independently for various events. A separate entrance with a spacious lobby, wardrobe, elevators, allows for events in the hall at the same time as other events in the Palace of the Republic. It has become a tradition to hold receptions here on behalf of the President of the Republic of Belarus with representatives of the women's community, with students - winners of subject Olympiads, receptions dedicated to Independence Day, presentation of credentials and other public holidays and anniversaries [5] .
Small Hall Complex
The Small Hall complex included: an international investment conference, a banking information technology forum, an international energy industry exhibition and congress, an award ceremony for the winners of the National Internet Award, an award ceremony for enterprises that won laureates of the Government of the Republic of Belarus, a meeting of education managers and others. The small auditorium, designed for 470 seats, has the shape of an amphitheater [6] . The conference room can accommodate up to 70 people. The room is equipped with a simultaneous translation system and special booths for the translator. There were held an information seminar on a new regional refugee protection program, a forum on banking information technologies, a solemn ceremony to present the Man of Business awards, and a press conference for pop artists [7] . Next to the conference hall is a press room. It is equipped with thirty special places for journalists. On the monitors are broadcast events held in the halls [8] .
