Gurgen Norikovich Vardanyan ( Armenian Գուրգեն Վարդանյան , Hungarian Gurgen Vardanjan ; born October 18, 1963 , Yerevan , Armenian SSR ) is a well-known figure skating coach who raised the first Hungarian European champion in women's single skating Julia Shebestien . Currently working in the UK.

Biography
Gurgen Vardanyan began figure skating in 1976 in Yerevan under the leadership of Elena Slepova . One of the first major competitions was the Winter Spartakiad of the Peoples of the USSR 1978 in Sverdlovsk , where he performed in the junior tournament [1] . From 1978 to 1980, he entered the youth, and in 1980-1987, the national team of the USSR, trained under the guidance of the outstanding Soviet coach Elena Tchaikovsky , participated and was a prize-winner at various international competitions. In 1983, 1986, 1987, Gurgen Vardanyan won the USSR Cup, and in 1984 he was awarded the title of international master of sports .
Since 1987 he switched to coaching. In 1987-1989, he worked first as a coach, and then as director of the Sports School in Yerevan, and in December 1989, at the invitation of the Hungarian Figure Skating Federation, he moved to this country to work with leading Hungarian figure skaters. Among his students are the champions of Hungary, participants in the world and European championships Tamara Dorofeev and Diana Pot , as well as nine-time champion of Hungary, European champion Julia Shebestien . Gurgen Vardanyan started working with Julia Shebestien when she was 8 years old, and continued to train this skater with some interruptions throughout her sports career. Since 1994, he has also been training his son, four-time Hungarian champion in men's single skating Tigran Vardanyan [2] .
In 2010, he moved to the UK in Nottingham , where he works as director of the National Ice Center [3] [4] and trains athletes, such as 2011 British champion David Richardson [5] .

- Asmik Vardanyan (b. 1967 ) - sister, three-time winner of the USSR Championship among juniors in women's single skating (1981-1983), USSR master of sports, trainer, assistant professor of the figure skating and pedagogy department of the Russian State Pedagogical University for Sport and Sport;
- Eranyak Ipakyan (b. 1963 ) - wife, coach and choreographer , works with leading Hungarian skaters;
- Tigran Vardanyan (b. 1989 ) - son, four-time Hungarian champion in men's single skating (2007-2009, 2011), participant in the World and European Championships.
