Biography
Shmuel (during his life in Russia Samuel Izrailevich) Mikunis was born in 1903 in the town of Polonnoe of the Russian Empire , now Ukraine . He graduated from the Polytechnic Institute in France with a degree in engineering . In 1921 he repatriated to Mandatory Palestine [1] .
In 1933-1945, he worked as an engineer for the Shell Corporation. In 1938 he joined the Palestinian Communist Party , since 1941 a member of the Central Committee. Since 1945 Secretary, Secretary General of the PCP. In 1948 he was elected General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Israel (" MAKI ").
From 1949 he was elected Knesset member , at various times he was a member of the Knesset Commission , the Legislative Commission , the Economy Commission, the Internal Affairs Commission, the Education and Culture Commission and the Labor Commission [1] .
After the KPI split in August 1965 headed its “national” part (in Soviet historiography it was called the “Mikunis- Sneh divisive group”), which quickly evolved towards left-wing Zionism and supported the actions of the government in the Six-Day War of 1967 . In 1973-1975 KPI Mikunisa dissolved in the party " Moked ".
He died on May 20, 1982. A street in Tel Aviv is named after him.
