Biography
Birth and Youth
Melpomene was born in the city of Krushevo , now Northern Macedonia , in the family of an Arkhun merchant who owned a business in Sofia. Her great-grandfather on the female side was a Bulgarian priest from Krushev, killed by the Turks [1] .
In 1918, Melpomene studied in Munich and was a member of a prominent Bulgarian-Macedonian revolutionary - socialist and terrorist Todor Panitsa . She became an activist in the women's movement for the liberation of Macedonia.
Killing Panic
Disappointed in the left wing of the Macedonian movement because of his close ties with the Comintern , Mencha joins the VMRO and offers the organization’s leadership to eliminate the Panic that was in exile in Vienna .
Arriving in Vienna, Karnicheva enters into confidence in the family of her victim and on May 8, 1925 in the Burgtheater, kills Panitsa.
According to a verdict of an Austrian court, Mencha was sentenced to 8 years in prison, but by the end of the year, by the decision of the Austrian Supreme Court, she was released from prison due to poor health - tuberculosis and other diseases.
Personal life
December 25, 1926 Mencha marries the head of VMRO Ivan Mikhailov . According to some reports, the murder of Panitsa was a condition for marriage on the part of Mikhailov.
Emigration
In 1934, together with her husband, Mencha retired to emigration, lived in Turkey , Poland , the Independent State of Croatia , Spain and Italy . Died of illness in Rome .
