Apprentice of Bernd Alois Zimmermann . In 1961 - 1999 cantor of the Neanderkirche church in Dusseldorf . At the same time he taught at the Dusseldorf Higher School of Music.
Author of numerous works of church music, including the oratorio Passion of Jesus ( 1985 ), Christmas Oratorio ( 1988 - 1991 ), Tango and Chorales for Dietrich Bonhoeffer ( German: Tangos und Choräle für Dietrich Bonhoeffer ; 2006 ). Blarr's vocal works became one of the main phenomena of a special trend in German music of the 1960s, called "New Spiritual Songs" ( German: Neue geistliche Lieder ); one of his songs, “Weil du Ja zu mir sagst”, won the first prize at the second music competition of the Evangelical Academy in Tutzing . In addition, Blarr owns two symphonies, of which the first ( 1985 ) is dedicated to the memory of Janusz Korczak , and arrangements for the organ of Pictures from the Exhibition by Modest Mussorgsky and the works of Igor Stravinsky .
