Biography

The son of Jozef Adamovich and Sofia Joher. In 1818-1822 he studied at a gymnasium in Vilnius, where he studied botany and medicine. Since 1822 he was an assistant to Ludwig Henryk Boyanus [1] . He was a student of the famous Joseph Ivanovich Frank ( Jozef Frank ). Adjunct of the University of Vilna (1824), then professor of the Vilna Medical and Surgical Academy (1834), who occupied the department of comparative anatomy and veterinary sciences. He taught the history of medicine, comparative anatomy, zoosurgery, zootherapy and other subjects. Active member of the Vilna Medical Society, its chairman (1841). He acquired the name as a device at the University of Veterinary Institute of Vilnius, and many works.

One of the founders of balneology in Lithuania . Beginning in 1842, he published a number of articles on the mineral waters of Druskenik , Stoklisek and other places.

He was buried at the Protestant cemetery in Vilna . In 1960, his ashes were transferred to the Rasu cemetery.

  • “Synopsis nosologiae veterinariae comparatae” (Vilna, 1824), which has passed several editions.
  • “Zoonomia, czyli nauka o życiu zwierząt domowych” (Vilna, 1838),
  • “Collectanea medico-chirurgica” (Vilna, 1836; this collection contains remarkable clinical observations by the author)
  • “Museum anatomicum Vilnense” (Vilna, l842); this is a description of the Vilnius Anatomical Museum before the closure of the Vilnius Medical and Surgical Academy and the transfer of its museums to Kiev University; here in the introduction, by the way, the history of the Vilna Medical and Surgical Academy is placed.
  • “Rys początków i postępu anatomii w Polsce i Litwie” (Vilna, 1855). Here is the story of the development of the study of anatomy in Poland and Lithuania, written by the author in memory of the 50th anniversary of the Vilnius Medical Society, founded in 1805 by Joseph Frank.
