History
The creation of a new carbine began at the request of American special forces. To reduce the size, the engineers shortened the M16 barrel from 508 to 254 mm, and the fixed butt was replaced by a telescopic, so the weapon became shorter by another 76 mm. However, the short barrel did not ensure the complete combustion of gunpowder , and, as a result, a too loud sound of a shot and a too large flash during shooting unmasked the shooter (not to mention simple discomfort ), so the design had to be changed. An upgraded version of the XM-177E1 Commando, which eliminated these shortcomings, was adopted.
In 1967, a modernized version of the Colt Commando appeared.
