Early Years and Education

Born in Durango ( Colorado ), and raised in Claremore ( Oklahoma ). He studied at the University of Oklahoma and the University of Arizona , and then received a bachelor of science degree in aeronautical engineering with honors from the University of Colorado at Boulder in 1960.

Service before NASA

Since 1953, in the service of the Air Force [1] . Initial flight training took place at Williams, Arizona. After graduating from aerospace research pilot school, he served as a test pilot at Edwards Air Force Base in California. He held this position from September 1965 until May 1966, before moving to NASA [2] .

NASA Career

Stuart Rusa was part of the Apollo 14 expedition, the third landing of people on the moon. He participated as the commander of the orbital module, that is, he did not step on the surface of the moon .

In the personal baggage of the pilot of the command module of Stuart Rusa, about 500 seeds of trees were in a lunar orbit . After the flight, seedlings were grown from seeds, which were then planted in many US states and some foreign countries in the mid-70s of the XX century. “ Moon Trees ” became a living monument to the Apollo program and personally to Stuart Rousse [3] .

After Apollo 14, Roos served as the reserve pilot for the command module for the Apollo 16 and Apollo 17 missions.

In 1971, he was awarded the NASA Medal of Excellence . He resigned in 1976 with the rank of Air Force Colonel.

After NASA

On December 12, 1994, Rusa died at the age of 61 in Washington from complications of pancreatitis. Buried at Arlington National Cemetery.
