Development History
In July 2007, Ubisoft officially announced Far Cry 2, a computer game, and announced that the game would be based on a new engine called Dunia Engine. The developer of the game and the engine was Ubisoft Montreal , and the publisher was Ubisoft. At the same time, it was stated that Far Cry 2 is an exclusive PC . [one]
According to an official interview with Louis-Pierre Pharand, chief producer of Far Cry 2, only 2-3 percent of the CryEngine engine code developed by the German company Crytek for FarCry 1 was used in the Dunia Engine, since the code is only CryEngine has been completely rewritten. Nevertheless, it is obvious that CryEngine is the basis of the Dunia Engine. [2] The engine also incorporates the developments of improved versions of CryEngine, made by Ubisoft for certain parts of FarCry ( spin-offs ), such as Far Cry Instincts .
On January 4, 2008, an official statement was made that Far Cry 2 is also being developed for the Microsoft Xbox 360 and Sony PlayStation 3 game consoles . [3]
On October 15, 2008, Far Cry 2 went on a replication game (“for gold”), becoming the first game to use the Dunia Engine. [4] [5] Later, several patches were released for Far Cry 2, which improved the game and the engine. On November 5, 2008, patch 1.01 was released, [6] and December 17, 2008 - patch 1.02. [7] [8] [9] [10]
On December 1, 2009, James Cameron's Avatar: The Game , the second game using the Dunia Engine, was launched around the world. The game was released for the PlayStation 3 , Xbox 360 , PlayStation Portable , Wii and DS consoles , as well as for the PC . James Cameron's Avatar: The Game was the first game to support stereoscopic graphics. [eleven]
This improved version of the engine is quite resource-intensive and requires relatively large computational performance for normal operation. [12]
At the end of November 2012, the release of Far Cry 3 , created on the updated engine - Dunia Engine 2 , took place. The technology received a number of improvements, including an improved graphics engine . [13]
