Honored Master of Sports of the USSR (1988), champion of the 1988 Olympic Games in walking 50 kilometers with a score of 3: 38.29 - this is a personal record and the best result of 1988 in the world. Also, this result takes the 20th place in the list of the fastest walkers at this distance in history [1] . The bronze medalist of the 1987 World Cup and the silver medalist of the European Championship 1986. He played for the All-Union Trade Union Trade Union Trade Union Council (Kemerovo).

In the fall of 2008 and 2009, in Kemerovo, on the initiative of Vyacheslav and with the support of local authorities, the V.I. Ivanenko Walking Cup was held.

He trained with Yury Vasilievich Podoplelov.
