Anton von Zach (IPA: [za: tʃ]) ( German Anton Freiherr von Zach ; Hungarian. Zách Antal ; May 14, 1747 , Pest - November 22, 1826 , Graz ) - Austrian military leader of Hungarian descent, Baron ( 1801 ) and feldzeichmeister .

Biography

Came from the middle class . Educated at the Academy of Engineering and in 1765 entered the service in the Austrian army. He served in the General Staff and in 1783 received the rank of captain.

In 1789 he distinguished himself in the capture of Belgrade . While still a major, for some time was a professor at the Neishtadt Military Academy. Since 1793, lieutenant colonel of the pioneer corps.

In 1799 he was appointed Chief of Staff of the Italian Army Field Marshal M. Melas and was soon promoted to the rank of Major General .

At the Battle of Marengo (June 14, 1800) was captured.

In the campaign of 1805, he was the chief of staff of the Italian army of Archduke Charles .

In 1810 - 1813 - Governor of Olmütz .
